Nope. Catalyst, and all the other points that people who seem to have a problem with Toronto media coverage are making today seemed to have boiled over. You're making up a scenario that makes Kessel look bad that is 100% counter to the words that came out of his mouth. Everyone is a mind reader these days - "he said this, but I know he really meant that (pissed he was rumoured to be on the move)" It's assinine.
- Deeps27

I think Kessel is as a whiny as they come. It's all I'm saying.

who gives a (frank)?

seriously.. they are responsible for ALL content that airs on their station

the source doesnt matter

- Dozzer

You're absolutely right. Some intern charged with screening tweets went to take a leak and all hell breaks loose. That's on TSN and they'll pay some symbolic price for it.

It's interesting that you don't see Kessel or Lupul calling out the general sentiment of the fans in their rants, though. Statements like that tweet and way worse have been gaining steam in all over social media (including here) for years. It's weird that the fans will talk smack all day and twice on Sunday - the sheer volume influences way more people than the MSM - but the minute the media does it, they're vindictive little dogs with axes to grind.

But you don't hear anything like, "We don't need fans like you" coming out of these guys. You can tell there's some PR guy over their shoulder going, "For God's sake, don't insult the fans!" Not trying to justify their actions, but the media's an easy target for everyone's frustration.

We talked about the on ice product, Traikos told me he is working on a four part series breaking it down from management to the players.

They are taking what Shanahan wrote at face value, dismantling the core that for four years have failed, it doesn't exonerate the management, it is what needs to happen. Proteau told me that he thinks Shanahan will be the GM for the tear down and then passes it off to Hunter.

- LeafMan

All great stuff. Doesn't answer my question about fair and balanced coverage of the team though.

Nonis has skated through this year - he deserves more criticism for this mess than he absorbs, and it's beause of a cozy media relationship in my opinion. Burke took heat all the time for his moves. What has Dave endured this year for the terrible team he iced, and how much worse it could have been had Bolland, Gorges, etc been introduced into the equation?

Let's all pretend it's hunky-dory in Toronto.

nope.. freedom of speech is something we still have.. and they would have to prove that this kid's tweet would actually have a negative impact on their lives.

AND

even if they could manage to pull that off.. there are no terms and agreement to hashtag on twitter from TSN, so therefore.. even if the suit against the kid was successful, the kid could turn around and sue TSN for exposing the comment to a wider audience

simple truth is.. if phaneuf lupul and cuthbert go through with this.. they are (frank)ing ninny assed whiners who deserve no respect whatsoever.

their own actions make me say this

they are thin skinned children crying to mommy. be adults you losers.

- Dozzer

Section 2 of the Charter does not mean that you can libel someone and Lupul and Dion and the Mrs. have the right to sue for libel. They need to show that the statement hurt them in some real way - not just their feelings. TSN apologized because issuing an apology right away reduces their liability if there is a finding against them

so you going to sue every person who says something negative about you moving forward?

its (frank)ing ridiculous.. and the comments made towards schilling's daughter were also threats.. not just some failed wise crack

The point is to try and deter this stuff. How? By making an example of some so that others will consider not doing it.

You can't be serious... example: if someone goes on your childs facebook and says they're going to attack them because they are the worst student president they have ever had you are going to sit your kid down and say "it's a harsh world out there kiddo, sorry"
- markmark

how you guys equate this to this guy is sleeping with this guys wife is beyond me

THREATS are not UNFOUNDED RUMOURS

totally different

(frank).. i am just gonna go buy a padded cell now where no one can talk to me and hurt my feelings.. because i'm a lil female dog..

Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence.

And I hope that they take it through, and win, and then donate everything to April Reimers charity about cyber bullying.

I was referring more to the other links in his posts. Some start just like this.

Is is a high profile case that needs to be dealt with. Kids need to learn it's not okay to say whatever the (frank) you want online.

Laws are changing on this. Slowly, but they are.

I would of loved to see the kid continue his rant on twitter, could of ripped them apart further and the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. Would of been a fun twitter war to watch

A lot of kids have committed suicide over such anonymous comments. A horrifying amount actually.
- Big_Lightnin

My daughter, myself and my wife watched a movie called cyberbully recently together, it left a huge impression on my daughter about what you say online, the movie was loosely based on Megan Taylor Meier. We thought it was important to show her the consequences that can happen.

ahhh common sense.. a parent who teaches their child about the dangers of the internet instead of trying to shield her from the truth and then sue everyone who is mean.

this is correct.. teaching children how to properly deal with the world.. not trying to make the world a super happy friendly place.. cause face it.. that will never happen

No but you set and enforce limits that align with your moral code - no racist, homophobic, misogynistic posts.

The criminal code of Canada imposes its own limits and the Phaneufs and Lupul have a right to go to the courts if they believe those limits were breached.

yes.. i think the onus is on the person who is on the receiving end to know how to deal with it

threats are not what i am talking about here.. let me make that clear.
