Based on what he was quoted as saying that isn't at all the point.
- Deeps27

So that tweet from a nobody triggered all of that?

Where is the media criticism of management though? Are you telling me that Darren Dreger goes after cousin Dave with the same tenacity he does the players? The fact of the matter there a multiple conflicts of interest going on all around the media. If you want to be a respected journalist or analyst you can't cherry-pick your arguments. Period.
- Deeps27

We talked about the on ice product, Traikos told me he is working on a four part series breaking it down from management to the players.

They are taking what Shanahan wrote at face value, dismantling the core that for four years have failed, it doesn't exonerate the management, it is what needs to happen. Proteau told me that he thinks Shanahan will be the GM for the tear down and then passes it off to Hunter.

They are, and they likely have an auto filter for profanity which is why it got through.

They're guilty of negligence in this case, the kid is liable to be hit up for libel.

- lumlums

nope.. freedom of speech is something we still have.. and they would have to prove that this kid's tweet would actually have a negative impact on their lives.

AND

even if they could manage to pull that off.. there are no terms and agreement to hashtag on twitter from TSN, so therefore.. even if the suit against the kid was successful, the kid could turn around and sue TSN for exposing the comment to a wider audience

simple truth is.. if phaneuf lupul and cuthbert go through with this.. they are (frank)ing ninny assed whiners who deserve no respect whatsoever.

their own actions make me say this

they are thin skinned children crying to mommy. be adults you losers.

he's a sub .500 with a mediocre save % and brutal GAA. wouldn't worry about Bernier's asking price. he's played himself into a very mediocre contract either way.
- DoubleDown

yes he has...
and that's independent of what Reimer has or hasn't done.

but all this nonsense about Reimer - which is always mentioned for some reason - when Bernier is critiqued is is hilarious. the various comments that Reimer isn't good under pressure... well the only one of them that has recent playoff experience in a must win game would be Reimer - who despite being saddled with the blame for the Boston game 7 collapse - stood on his head for two victories to get that series to 7 seven games.

just like everyone says Reimer's had good and bad periods, so has Bernier.

the continued attempt to "anoint" Bernier as a some "super #1" goalie is just silly... he hasn't been any more consistent that Reimer... and I believe the trend in Bernier stats indicate this.

there's no reason for Nonis to sign him before the summer, and thereby commit $ to him ...

not really.. any defense lawyer knows section 2 of the charter of rights and freedoms.

Giving someone the right to express themselves does not make them immune from the concequences of that expression, especially when the expression is false, and on this case libellous. It isn't that hard of an argument to make.

Huge part of it but the blame falls on the players as well.

The letter sent out today seems like hyperbole to some but I think this time it is a tear down. I had a exchange with Proteau of the Hockey News and Traikos last night on twitter and they agreed that the proof is in October when they lace them up and that core is dismantled.

- LeafMan

Its up to management to handle their assets and asses the value properly.
All Nonis had to do was say he is not paying Dion more than 5 or 5.5 for 5 years... and stick to it, if not move him out.

Its not like he leafs have been good for the past 3 seasons... they have been bad the whole time... 2013 playoffs included... Nonis failed to recognize this.

The flip side: Maybe (not likely) some of these people posting rape/violence threats, racist comments, etc will pause before they do so because hiding behind a keyboard isn't as safe as they had thought. This situation is minor but hopefully some good comes out of it in that regard.

I don't get what all the fuss is about, it's not a continued attempt to anoint Bernier...it's been done for 2 years now, not sure why it's even talked about.

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Kudos for this. Great movie and as relevant today as it was forty years ago... which is more than a little sad.

agreed.

I think the only reason they are doing this or threatening to this is to spank TSN publicly .. they aren't going to get anywhere with the kid.

Not like the kid made this rumor up when this has been a rumor for MONTHS previous. And don't tell me lupul and phaneuf never saw this before because they have. They are not that stupid. It definitely has been brought up to them before. And on another side, the TWEET was not even directed to Lupul tagging him in that tweet.

Nope. Catalyst, and all the other points that people who seem to have a problem with Toronto media coverage are making today seemed to have boiled over. You're making up a scenario that makes Kessel look bad that is 100% counter to the words that came out of his mouth. Everyone is a mind reader these days - "he said this, but I know he really meant that (pissed he was rumoured to be on the move)" It's assinine.

A lot of kids have committed suicide over such anonymous comments. A horrifying amount actually.

You can't be serious... example: if someone goes on your childs facebook and says they're going to attack them because they are the worst student president they have ever had you are going to sit your kid down and say "it's a harsh world out there kiddo, sorry"
