The problem is, even with said centre, he does not take hits to sustain pressure, so its' all off the rush, or on the PP... Good centres still need wingers who dig in the corners to get sustained pressure which leads to winning hockey games, it's why the leafs first line a re big fat minuses every year while other top lines are not...

I think Kessel feels he's so good he doesn't have to work out... or he doesn't care about winning enough to work hard in the offseason. Then he has short bursts playing well, burns out and can't compete

You guys are blessed with Phil Kessel. I don't think Dion is all that great and his contract is questionable, but Kessel showed some nad and true leadership with his comments, especially for a guy who has been scapegoated himself. He, and to a lesser extent Phaneuf, deserve better.

I get the sense from him that he feels as long as he bags goals (enough to satisfy his contract numerically), thats all that matters... And he's right, he dos justify his contract, but he won't be winning any cups with that mentality, if it is the way he is thinking...

I look at Marion Gaborik as a comparable. He had to go to the winning tradition in LA to become clutch. If Kessel was plying beside Toews, Sid, Kopitar, Stamkos, or Tavares and tried to take a shift off (let alone 30games) he would be put in his place.

In Toronto if Phaneuf or Bozak tried to tell him what to do we all know how that would go.. and it ends at the bottom of a bucket of extra crispy.
