Then he shouldn't be considered a core guy

I refuse to absolve someone with that kind of salary with flimsy excuses.

Does he have to be the best defensive forward on the team? (frank) no.

Should he be expected to try harder than positioning himself at the edge of the defensive zone waiting for a breakout pass? Yes.

- Dozzer

I'll agree sort of. He's a core guy. But he can't be "the man"

I think the reason I can't see them trading him is that they sure as (frank) ain't gonna get his worth back. I was all for trading him. But the guys on the radio changed the way I was thinking.

But he now can't be because he's making too much. Apparently there's a money cap on core guys.

I think he's miscast as a core guy.

Hes like a young hossa IMO

Top end offensive talent, but you shouldn't build a team around him

I see the Leafs are engaged tonight......cue the Glory Run to Oblivion, for our first rounder. Fu cking Leafs. Fu cking Nonuts! He couldn't break up the core and his epitaph will read: Fired for being too cautious. Lets just waste this season totally, with nothing much to show for it! Cock lick!

No idea where this is going. But who is the guy that would be the new "dougie"? One player to come to the Leafs and all of a sudden not make them sacks of crap?
- weirdoh

Well if kessel played a little harder and more dedense with a little less offense , ya we'd be better off.

Now...im not saying he has dissapointed. ..he has probably over achieved. But point is he is not elite...offensively elite..but not elite. We would be good to move on with the right package. The package will seem dissapointing...but keeping him is completely dumb. A 1st rounder for the future is better than watching kessel decline, even if he racks up points and we continue to suck. He has to go. Hes been a top 5 scorer for yrs and we have gotten nowhere. To those who say keep him during a rebuild as he approaches 30 is baffling.

I went to take a look at what his comments were and found this on his (Buttons) Twitter:

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 5h5 hours ago
Dubas says on @TSN1050Radio that the Leafs players are very upset over the tweet that appeared on TV yesterday. Understandably.

Craig Button ‏@CraigJButton 2h2 hours ago
@mirtle @TSN1050Radio What's funny James, is that ignorant stuff ends up on Twitter all the time but where is outrage towards Twitter?

So basically what Button is saying is this: if someone writes something racist on a piece of paper, WHY aren't we questioning the paper companies!??!

I have no problem holding onto him, he is talented.

But ffs... Don't build lines around him... Build a line that a scoring winger would fit into that doesn't require said winger to be a strong defensive prescence.

Easier said than done I realize... But year after year of bozak as his pivot proves this isn't the way management is approaching it

If rebuilding means acquiring/drafting 3, 4 or 5 really good young future core pieces then trading Kessel makes sense b/c it helps you get those pieces quicker. He's the best player on the team (by far) and the rest of the league know's it so I have to believe you can trade him for a couple of those future pieces. Keep him and it'll take longer to draft all those pieces and he'll just be skating around with these other no-names for the next 7 years.

In management's defense, where are they going to find Bergereon, Thornton, Getzlaf or Teows easily?

I can understand you not liking Bernier but how you think Reimer is good boggles my mind.
