Lets start a kane pool for when he comes back
I will take nine weeks from today

- molly2522

If we are going to have a pool it has to be retroactive to the day of the injury and the guess has to be in days not weeks. From the time Kane went off the ice until his 1st shift back....

I.e. an entry would look like this :

Kanes return to action pool :

Paulish - 68 days .

And someone else will have to run this one cus im in training at work as of 0800 today , like 2 minutes ago . Lol

It's only been a week since the injury......why does it feel like an eternity?

Yeah but Vermette eases the pain a little. Like a scotch after work, it doesn't solve all your problems but it sure makes them seem a little less bad!

It's my understanding that once a break like Kane has is healed, it's healed (of course, you have to make sure it's completely healed before permitting any contact).

And - it's my understanding the a shoulder separation is worse because it's much easier to reinjure it.

From experience of having both shoulder separation is much worse because once it pops out it is significantly easier to do again. Not fun, but after doing it a dozen times the pain is reduced.

You're confusing a shoulder dislocation with a shoulder separation. Dislocation is when the bone pops out of the socket. A separation is far a worse injury.

Trust me I know what I had and it was a separation. Tore all sorts of ligaments and eventually had surgery once my college playing days ended. May have used the wrong lingo with it popping out. More like partially came out and would be able to slide it back in. Lots of fun.

Yes - this is true. Saying that, especially in a sport like hockey where you're constantly crashing along the boards, a collarbone is a VERY easy bone to break again.

I agree about Oduya, think overall it is a combo of things. But no doubt father time has his eye on Oduya.

It is a shame the drop off was as steep as it was but I think with the right minutes he can help in the playoffs for sure.

Yeah probably. My collarbone never had issues again but I wasn't playing hockey so wouldn't know about being checked against the boards.

He's 33 - you folks act like he's 45 and still contributing top 6 minutes.

Yep. That's why I'm still hoping that if he comes back, that bone is actually 100% healed - especially come playoff time when (if he returns) someone is going to be out there attempting to destroy him along the boards.

You didn't indicate that ligaments were torn in the first post, you only talked about dislocation. I had a similar injury as you on my right shoulder. I dislocated my left without the ligament damage. The seperation was far more painful and took longer to recover from.

I am not sure I ever recovered 100%. Certainly never got full range of motion back and still have pain from time to time. Was more pissed about having to hang up the cleats. Now I pretty much play softball and do some cycling and take it easy.

Think you are correct on all counts there Sage.
There's probably more of an inclination to come back sooner than fully healed with a separation and IDK if there's really a way to tell (other than range of motion w/o pain) that the healing is done.

Just think folks equating Kane's injury to Soupy's are stretching things -- I wouldn't expect Kane back before the 12 week timeframe. And I hope they are cautious in allowing his return -- would be devastating to have him come back too soon and risk the rest of his career, even if it means we bow out of the playoffs.

There is a huge difference with a fracture and a clean break.

Fracture is 4-6 weeks, even in adults, Clean break is 10-12 weeks in most cases and pins, plates or screws don't really make them heal faster just help ensure the proper alignment.

10 weeks post opp wouldn't be outrageous. Not something I would bet monies on though.

Had to "re-learn" and start from scratch every single motion required to pick up, plant and throw a baseball from the OF. Bits and pieces of it just didn't work for weeks. And it was 2-3 months. But bowling wasn't an issue. Got clearance ahead of time from my OS for that.

Is there anyone here with medical expertise that can shed some light on the long-term effects of Kane's broken collarbone. My good friend's father is an Orthopedic Surgeon and he said that Kane will never be able to shoot as hard and that it is going to have a large effect on him moving forward. Are we going to get the same 88 back that we saw this year? im very worried given the Orthopedic Surgeon's thoughts....
