It's my understanding that once a break like Kane has is healed, it's healed (of course, you have to make sure it's completely healed before permitting any contact).

And - it's my understanding the a shoulder separation is worse because it's much easier to reinjure it.

- StLBravesFan

Think you are correct on all counts there Sage.
There's probably more of an inclination to come back sooner than fully healed with a separation and IDK if there's really a way to tell (other than range of motion w/o pain) that the healing is done.

Just think folks equating Kane's injury to Soupy's are stretching things -- I wouldn't expect Kane back before the 12 week timeframe. And I hope they are cautious in allowing his return -- would be devastating to have him come back too soon and risk the rest of his career, even if it means we bow out of the playoffs.

It is not out of the realm of reality to see the Hawks grab the 1-2 seed from the Preds, if the hawks play like they did yesterday and the Preds continue their slump

Definitely will root for the Stars and Flames toward the end of the season. Practically will root for anything that will keep the Kings out of the playoffs

I would imagine they try all the things to accelerate the healing like with Soupy. Forgot what procedure and/or meds were but it was touted as something cutting edge.

it was the Boston game....his 1st shift...nobody realized he was gone for a while so they never really showed how he may have been hurt..

Oh, the great Gary "Suitcase" Smith.

There was actually one occasion he skated out of the net with the puck on his stick and actually crossed the centerline which is a penalty. I think he was playing for the Oakland Seals at the time.

Can't remember what th penalty for doing that is - do you know?

- RickJ

You guys talking about Gary Smith makes me wonder if you have any insights on something that I remember about him but am not sure about.

In the 70s I remember seeing a goalie reach out to catch a shot that was going wide and a skater hit his arm and broke it around the post.

I think that it was Smith when he was with the Golden Seals but am not sure. Any thoughts ?

Yes....Shoulders are a weird injury from the standpoint of having to provide a big range of motion and there are many nerves muscles etc. Rehab from a slight rotator cuff tear surgery was very involved compared to procedures on my knees.

So in some ways Kane is better off as a shoulder issue could be a problem for an entire career. That said he would be back much sooner from a medium grade separation than his current injury.

No, No, No - Rundblad, Erixon, etal have been red herrings. The real problem is Oduya (-9) and Seabs (-4, worst since 2006-2007) have had poor years.

Q made #4-#27 the shutdown pairing last year for a reason, and it wasn't Duncan Keith. This year, Oduya has struggled and after a great 2-3 week stretch during the Hawks streak earlier this year, Seabs has struggled.

But go ahead and keep blaming the #7 & #8 Dmen.

For all the so called experts, please explain why #7 is so slow to recover when he gets caught behind the net or near the circles. Also, when he falls, see how long it takes him to get up. Often, Seabs floats back into position instead of hustling back. 'Tis a reason why so many opponents can sit in or near the crease.

- KingB

If plus/minus is your indicator of bad year vs. good year then Rundblad is the Hawks second best defensemen since he has the second best plus/minus. In fact, Rundblad has been terrible in his own zone... a turnover machine. Awful. Seabs hasn't been good since the turn of the calendar but a big reason is the whole team in front of him hasn't been good either. I would argue he was the best defender on the team through December. How many times did he stop breakaways and 2 on 1's. He was a beast.

Also on the rotator, it depends on which tendons. My OS walked me thru all of mine years ago, but it still had a profound affect on my throwing range in baseball.

Weirdest things was PT was amazed at how much strength and range of motion I had 10 days after surgery....But then it took about 3 months to be able to do one simple move with my arm.
The same motion you do when someone gives you change....I couldn't turn my hand over....Very frustrating as the nerves wouldn't fire for that movement....But I could have shot 18 holes of golf 2 weeks after surgery. Like I said large range of motion in a shoulder.

Seabrook was the best before Christmas and at that time was the only one of the bunch playing better than the year before.

He didn't...forced Kane down to the goal line below the left circle, then Leighton somehow allowed a wrist shot thru his 5 hole from a near impossible angle.

That was 99.9% Leighton's fault.

If anyone thinks Kimmo was "turnstiled" on that play...you need to research the meaning of the word.

- ArlingtonRob

It's called trash talk. If you don't know what that is, maybe you could research it. Just an attempt at levity at the expense of a Philly fan.

Yikes.

Well aware of "trash talk", but since Kimmo is now a Hawk, and presumably we'd like to see him perform well...

...why target him?

And I've always respected Timonen myself, so I found it a bit unfair.

Pardon for bustin' your chops.

Now if you'd gone after Pronger, or offered him Carcillo again...

Had to "re-learn" and start from scratch every single motion required to pick up, plant and throw a baseball from the OF. Bits and pieces of it just didn't work for weeks. And it was 2-3 months. But bowling wasn't an issue. Got clearance ahead of time from my OS for that.

They've lost 4 straight...Hawks only 8 points back now with a game in hand....and 4 back of the Blues who play tomorrow night in Philly. Go Flyers!!!

Anybody else see what happened to the Panthers last night. Bobby Lu injured in the first Montoya injured in the third and Lu comes out of street clothes to finish the game. Pirri with another goal...kid is hot. They ended up having to dress one of the coaches as the backup at the end of the game.

I saw that Florida game. That was crazy. Funniest part was Bobby Lu coming out in street clothes (actually he looked like he was going to shoot Saturday Night Fever) only to turn around and change back into his gear.

Yea he was. And yes it was a great trip. Dropped nearly 3 bills at the Blackhawks store and went to the game and just my luck, Kaner gets hurt.

I think the funniest part of the game which had nothing to do with the actual game was that literally at the same time, mid third period, everyone got some sort of notification on their phone about the Derrick Rose injury and all of sudden you heard everyone talking about it.
