Yes but Campbell didn't get surgrey, right?
- Bjm84

Someone mentioned that the other night when I thought of Kane coming back earlier than expected...I don't know if Campbell had surgery, I don't think so...I know JJ mentioned quite a few times that they did something specific with Campbell and that it helped reduce the the time it would take for it to heal...can't recall exactly what though

You wanna blame Seabrook and Oduya, fine....But part of the reason they have such poor +/-(if we are going to look at that stat only) is because of the revolving doors at 5th and 6th D...Q has been juggling his D pairs as much as his forwards...Keith playing with Rundblad, then Keith plays with Rozy....There is a reason Keith and Seabs work together so good as a pair, they compliment each other, and that is what you want from your D men..Oduya was playing much better before he got injured, par of the reason is because he was paired back with Hammer....Besides, their bad +/- has a lot to do with the entire team playing average hockey
- captainserious

Oduya was the one killing the Hawks, Everyone thinks Rundblad was why they switched, It was Oduya who was being sheltered.

Broke it on March 14th and returned to play on April 20th - Just over 5 weeks.
- Tanuki

But he also didn't have surgery, did he? I'm not expecting Kane back before the second round, if at all this season.

Oh, the great Gary "Suitcase" Smith.

There was actually one occasion he skated out of the net with the puck on his stick and actually crossed the centerline which is a penalty. I think he was playing for the Oakland Seals at the time.

Can't remember what th penalty for doing that is - do you know?

- RickJ

I remember that and I don't that penalties were assessed to goalies at that time. However, I believe that Smith's actions were directly responsible for the goalie blueline rule inception.

Eric Staal hasn't been the same since Alex Edler wrecked his knee in the world championships a few years ago.

EDIT - last year.

Ya I was a big fan of his during the Carolina glory days. He has lost more than a step. Its unfortunate bc that team is going nowhere with Eric, Jordan, and Semin as the core pieces...

He came back for game 4 on the 22nd - so 39 days= almost 6 weeks.

He was expected to be our 6-8 weeks from what I've read - don't know why it's less than Kane's projection.

I wouldn't count on him until round 3 - but that's just a non-medical opinion.

- StLBravesFan

Surgery (longer time) vs non-surgery (shorter time) IMO.

Plus, do we know it's the exact same injury?

Checked on that surgury only occurs in 10% of cases usually for shoulder side of bone or protruding fractures. Better to have it right even if it costs you a cup. Kane is a special player tied up for a long time.
- Cup-Bearer

Plus it's on his shooting side. I can't remember if Soupy's was on his shooting side or not.

Bowman must be walking through Chicago like he's swinging a 3rd leg after his first big boy moves

I was too. That cup team was solid. I think the Staals and Semin make a serviceable first line (assuming Eric can regain his pre-busted knee form), but the problem is that they have no depth, so every opponent can throw everything they have at that first line. Who else is going to save that team, Jeff Skinner?

He is a warrior. Can play in all situations. Will give you a solid, 98% mistake free game in and game out. Will always be in position, will always answer the bell be it on the ice, in the room, with the media.

He will play through pain that would sideline most HOCKEY players, let alone most athletes. He will bleed, take a hit to make a play, make a great first pass, calm your team down when things look bleak.

He will make a great assist when your team needs a goal, and score that goal when your team REALLY needs that goal.

You will love him.

That's bit of a low blow. What was the goalie doing on that play?

Now there's a blast from the past. Remember Desjardins quite well, extremely acrobatic a la the Dminator as I recall. What an embarrassment of riches in the nets from the early 1970's, tony, Dejardins and Gary Smith wasn't too shabby either.

It is a low blow, but intended more for comedic purposes. I've not seen much of Kimmo, other than against the Hawks, so it's no surprise that's the most indelible memory I have of him.

- 67hawks

NHL Rule 27.7 Participating in the Play Over the Center Red Line - If a goalkeeper
participates in the play in any manner (intentionally plays the puck or
checks an opponent) when he is beyond the center red line, a minor
penalty shall be imposed upon him. The position of the puck is the
determining factor for the application of this rule.

So the only way a goalie can logically cross the center red line would be to get to the bench during a delayed penalty, and while doing so can't touch the puck or another player.

If he can be 1/5th as good as you think he is, the Hawks will be golden on D. I hope he brings all of that to Chicago.
