Just heard John Tavares talk about Nick Leddy and commented on his great hockey sense and poise. That can't be. Then he went out and compared him to Scott Niedermayer or however you spell it.

Then again, what does Tavares Know?

Johnny Oduya still the better choice...lol...

I bet Oduya seeing Leddy sign for his big deal, likely will expect a huge raise next year?

I know, I will always have sour grapes over this.

I was referring to another poster's Norris suggestions 66. Was it Bob Baum that used to cut the palms out of his gloves so he could hold a guy without it looking like it?

I cheer for one team and one team only.
- Elbows15

I cheer for two. The hawks, of course....and anyone who can beat the HaplessHabs.

Imagine my dilemma last night when Kings played the Habs....and yes...for just this once, I liked the Kings winning. NOW, they can go on a 5-6 game losing streak.....)

Nice both the Preds and Blues lost last night. Hawks can get closer this evening. Hawks only 8 points back with 2 games in hand and need to capitalize.

Meanwhile here comes Minni they've won 4 in a row.

You're right, Bobby Baun. He was also the guy who broke his leg and played the rest of the game during (i think) the playoffs, and it might have been the cup winning game in the mid 60's.

Just saw the other post about Carl Brewer. If the boys from ontario say Brewer he must have done that as well. I know Baun did. Not sure who did it first.

I have no idea who did it first but cutting the palms out of the gloves was pretty common in the 60s and 70s, it was even done in kids hockey at the Rep level. When i look back at some of the stuff we were taught by our coaches in hockey I have no idea how the game ever progressed? Instead of focusing on skating, shooting and stickhandling we used to practice how to impede the opposition as well as how to hurt him. We used to have special coaches brought in strictly to teach us how to fight. In hindsight, Old Time Hockey was an embarrasment, but it was fun.

When I was a kid playing hockey everyone used to compare me to Ron Ellis and my illustrious career came to a grinding halt when I was unable to make a Jr. B team .... so what's your point?

Look, if you or others want to say he is not a proto center size wise then I agree. But are we really going to get into the hyperbole of legend created on a hockey board?

Pirri, like the Hawks second line, is never going to be on the ice for critical defensive zone draws etc..down the stretch of a game. I posted his stats thru 80 NHL games and he is a 40 point plus guy and is like plus 10. Great on the power play, and as you see with Florida, when healthy he gets a regular shift and is productive.

What Pirri and others experienced, is they did everything they were asked to do and trained for, and it still did not matter because the coach simply did not like them. That is the coachs choice. But when you are a player trying to have a career and get jacked around, and you believe in yourself, and you read the writing on the wall. It is time to move on. The guy accomplished everything he could in the AHL and played fine when he was allowed to play.

I am shocked Florida did not sign Handzuis, and send Pirri down.

- TrueGrit

My guess is he was asked to work on his two way play...so, no, he didn't do everything asked of him.

hated the team but some of my favorite players were Habs.

Beliveau, Cournoyer and Robinson. Also always liked Serge Savard.

(frank) Rejean Houle though.

Very nice man. Greased lightning between the blue lines. Believe it or not as wide as he was he didn't wear full shoulder pads. They sewed the leather shoulder pad cap onto his union suit underwear. Great hockey player.

Poor Ronny Ellis eventually had a nervous breakdown from skating up and down the right wing like one of those men on an early version table top hockey game. That was the way the game was played back then, not too much offensive creativity except the superstars like Bobby Hull, Orr, Lafleur.

But Ellis did play a key role on 1972 Team Canada with Bobby Clarke and Paul Henderson.

Hey guys,

Wanted to get some hockey opinions on the level of statistical analysis which seems to be the wave over the sport right now. This CORSI rating is perplexing to say the least. I have seen numerous articles that mention this stat and I sit back and question why they are turning the sport into a trig class.

Anyone who has played the sport knows when someone is living up to their expectation and playing to their strengths. Do NHL coaches put a lot of value in this stat? I mean at the end of the day I'm sure Q knows which line or player for that matter is getting zone time and having control of the puck on a majority of their ice time. I just dont see the point in the stat and feel like it's a way to give geeks something to do.
