I have wondered about the timeframe on Kane's injury. A standard bone break is 4-6 weeks. Do the doctors remove the pins and plate after the bone heals - then another 4-6 weeks for the holes left by the pins to heal?? Because I can't see a simple bone break taking that long to heal. I have broken fingers and a toe - and cracked my tailbone - each time - it was 4-6 weeks.

Also - I read that Kane is skating to keep his conditioning up - so I don't think there will be much time needed to re-acclimate once he is cleared for contact.

Does anyone have a fact based opinion on the healing time??

If Luongo prognosis not good, FLA GM Dale Tallon may trade for goalie. Trades are permitted post-deadline but player not playoff eligible.

I didn't know that. Is this part of the newest CBA?

I'm not positive but I think it was that way before.

A collarbone is 6-8 weeks. At least it was when I broke mine.

Edit. though it may have been before the advent of modern medicine if you ask my kids.

Would be interested in what you thought the list was. Don't need to list 20, but would like to see what you thought 1-10.

Let's be honest about a prospect list - the rankings don't mean anything when it comes to this organization and what the coaching staff expects from any given player. If any of them don't fit into Q's system - they could be the top ranked prospect - but won't find any playing time at the NHL level (see Clendening, Pirri, Dahlbeck, J. Hayes.....)

Different injury and it appears Kane had a screws or a plate put in but the time frame they gave will be close. I would be surprised if Kane was back much sooner than 10 weeks. You really can't play until completely healed. I didn't read anywhere Kane is skating now...please post if you have a link.

I thin it matters where it is broken...

I have read from several different sites the past few days - I will try to find it. I thought it was a little premature - but I guess if properly padded - it's possible.

I don't know but it seems like it is too soon. But if he can start to skate a few weeks before he can practice I would think that will help his conditioning a great deal.

After Kane can skate, then he has to practice and then take contact...

I am almost certain the plate would come out and I am not sure about screws. But I'm not sure his was plated or screwed into place although my guess is that was the case.

My guess would be if they take the plate and pins out - that could extend the recovery time - to guard against infection??

And do you really want to put at risk one of your most valuable assets at risk for a permanent long term injury if he is not fully healed? Regardless, of the hypotheticals and percentages of what the Doctors put down, this is foolish.

It would be great, to have him back for the playoffs. Have him walk on the court /ice for game seven a la Willis Reed dragging his Knee/shoulder. Save the Hawks and get another Cup in a storybook ending.

Not buying it. Gut it out boys, this is what you got. Let's see what they do with it.

No team in the West should want to play the Wings in the Final...

There really is not any guess work involved...If Kane is fully healed he will play otherwise no. I don't there is any in between, it's not like playing with a sprain or ligament strain....It's either totally fixed or not.

The penalty against Stepan was garbage. But oh well. I don't care either way.

Disagree. Everyone heals differently, and does anyone truly know the true extent of the surgery and everything involved?

But I hope you're right. Time will tell. First couple rounds will be tough, to say the least.

At least the Wings have a PP...the Hawks would have d!ck'd around for 2 minutes struggling to get past the blueline.

I don't know what there is to disagree with and I have no idea how long it will take for him to heal. My gut feeling is at least 10 weeks...my guess. Marty Biron had a clean break and it took him 14 weeks.

If it is only a collar bone break if it can be determined through scans/Xrays if fully healed.

I am not sure if they come out or not - if they do - I think you would want them out before playing in an NHL game again.

My guess if he takes a big hit to the area - the metal may crack the bone again.

My original questions were if a normal bone break is 4-6 weeks, did they doctors double the healing time because of the pins and plate that were inserted?? And do they remove the pins and plate once the bone is healed and he stays inactive for fear of infection around the incision spot??

Just seems wacked that you would remove hardware thus causing recent wounding or trauma????Call it whatever but like many here I am not a doctor and sleep at home .
