I'm encouraged. I admit, I hated the Rinaldo extension and disagreed with the Schultz one. But overall I think he's done well. He got good value for Timonen and Coburn, but it does leave a hole to fill next season.

I guess he figured, too, that to simply gut the team at the TDL says to the rest of the guys, go ahead and bag it. This way, they still have mostly the same team, and at the very least should go down swinging, or provide an easy to see guidpost to what is a crop andwhat is a weed.

Why? Shultz is only signed for 2 years and to expect the prospects to be ready is just unreasonable. If they are great but guys usually spend years in the minors before coming up. Average I would say is 21-22 years old. Best Case Scenario is they will all be up in 2 years but realistically it will be longer. If they are you can deal Shultz. Rinaldo is a waste of a roster spot like Rosehill

On a game-in and game-out basis, I'd worry more about him making the sorts of gaffes that Denis Gauthier used to make -- making hits at the expense of getting out of position.

I love draft picks, but not at the expense of your best defenseman, especially considering the lack of talent that is left.

Whoever the Flyers take in the first round, likely won't be ready to help the big club for another three years. Coincidentally, it's also the next time the Flyers will likely sniff the playoffs now.
