I don't think it was.
Kimmo hasn't played in ten months so you didn't know what you were getting.
Coburn was also out hurt. They played a lot of the season without them. - J35Bacher
Those are good reasons. Also, WRT Coburn, no one could turn down Tampa's overpayment..I'm still shocked they got so much. |

Trading Kimmo and Coburn wasn't? - bradleyc4
Not really.
Hextall read the market and got far more for them than anyone could have thought.
He used the data he had, read the market, and made a decision on two players who have missed much (Coburn) or all (Timonen) of the current season. |

I'm more concerned with getting another guy with a rep for borderline hits. - johndewar
On a game-in and game-out basis, I'd worry more about him making the sorts of gaffes that Denis Gauthier used to make -- making hits at the expense of getting out of position.

He only looks that way to people who aren't following. The tank was on. The deadline cemented it.
Is he doing the right thing? He is IMO.
This team would never come out and be complete sellers. If he wasn't PR aware he would have sold more. He would have loved to. He couldn't for the team, the fans and ticket sales. He'll finish up at the draft. - mayorofangrytown
Tough to pill to swallow with G and Jake in their primes. |

Actually, you can make a case that holding onto both of them would have been more of the "same old, same old" with respect to the Flyers.....always trying to win, right now, no matter what. |

His puck-pushing numbers are actually pretty good. His shot-suppression numbers, not so good.
Better than some of the current guys we have who fail miserably at both. - Tomahawk
This table makes very interesting reading.
http://stats.hockeyanalys...orsi&sort=A60&sortdir=ASC
Of the 7 regular D the best shot suppressors in order are:
Coburn
MacDonald
Schultz
Streit
Grossmann
Schenn
MDZ
But the best shot generators are:
LSchenn
MDZ
Streit
Coburn
MacDonald
Schultz
Grossmann
So when MDZ-Schenn are out there, expect a ton of shots attempts both ways. |

Perry and Getzlaf are 29 and 30. They seem to keep producing. Why can't Giroux and Voracek? |

All you can hope for is that the young D they've accumulated have accelerated growth spurts. Gostisbehere Should have been a full on contributor next year but that was the real tragedy for this season, him losing a season. |

It certainly wasn't a push to get into the playoffs, that's for certain. |

FWIW, was there any conversation about PEB's extension? I like it, btw.
Is the extension a 1-way or 2-way deal? |

And Kimmo is probably retiring after the season. So getting what they did seems pretty good for me. |

You'd be right to make that case. We weren't going to win with them and as much as I like both players we traded, if we draft well this summer, it could really set us up well for a real run at a cup. |

Del Zotto is not much of a power play D, though. He didn't do much in that role in NY when he got chances and hasn't shown here that he should be moved up from the second to first unit. He generates much of his offense by joining the rush. Streit is better at the top of the umbrella -- gets his shots through, distributes well. - bmeltzer
I agree 100%.
Well 99% because as much as I think MDZ's PP shooting has been poor, his slap pass for Giroux's goal against Toronto was perfect

Is Ghost back yet? He's been skating since early January, 2 months ago. I'm not sure where things stand right now though. |

I'm sure it's one way. I'm actually upset he got so little money, lol. He deserves at least as much as the guy with 2 points. |

When the forwards are providing support and keeping their feet moving, he'll be OK. When they don't he won't. Have seen enough of Gudas to know he is not a good long-range passer and struggles with getting himself way out position. - bmeltzer
I like the guy... hopefully his development is more linear than L Schenn's. |

Solid contract. Almost robbery. PEB, White, VDV and Raffl as very productive and very cheap guys that have some grit and tenacity, can help kill penalties and chip in some goals. I'm good with it, especially once we lose 2 expensive, dead weight contracts. |

I get having higher expectations of the top paid guys, but the blame has unfairly been entirely laid at Phil and Dion's feet. Kessel is right, they didn't build that team. |
