no no, i agree, you cant. i dont care about the system, but that would be murderously unfair to foles.
maclin would be nice because you know he works, and have the familiarity, but if he is going to bend you over the barrel, there are other options. - stayinthefnnet
No really many other options though. Dez and Damariyus are franchised and the draft is pretty weak in regards to WRs. Only other one is Cobb and he likes to work the slot, which is where theyve always envisioned Matthews. |

that is true. availability is a big part of the game.
but even when healthy, he never put up numbers like he should. and he is absolutely electric. some of it can be attributed to not knowing when to take whats there, but his use was atrocious. repeatedly attempted to use him as some sort of ram up the middle. - stayinthefnnet
I'm with you man! Spiller is a dynamic back. If he can stay healthy, and used properly he's a stud. |

I agree. I liked Vinny, but man, he's just been awful.
My view is, if I'm going to overpay, let's do it on a guy who fills a primary need and role. You want to overpay a top defenseman? Sure. Because he's going to play half the game and be a vital cog. You don't overpay the 4th, 5th and 6th defensemen. You can get what they bring from cheaper sources. - Jsaquella
I would be interested what the TOI was for the 3rd pair D men was 20/30 years ago.
Are the guys just that much fitter so you don't need real minutes from the bottom two, just like 30 seconds out of every 2:30?

In his last season at TB, he scored at a 67 point pace. Injury can happen to any player, young or old. Plenty of players play at a high level well into their 30's. - MJL
i understand erosion of the body and skills isnt linear for everyone, but you wouldnt agree that the risk of injury tends to go up with a player's age? |

true. i like cobb better than maclin, but for the reason you listed i dont think he fits well.
i just really envision other veterans becoming available, either by trade or eventually being cut.

Shady traded? - MatveiDmitrii
Yup, for Olli Jokinen
actually for some LB I've never heard of, but the football gurus seem to like him |

I think the move makes plenty of sense from an Eagles standpoint. McCoy is very good, but RB isn't a dire need in today's NFL. It's a vertical passing league now. The days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust are over.
Eagles have pressing needs, they have to upgrade their secondary dramatically, and this gives them the cash to do it.
I also wouldn't rule out them taking a run at Suh. |

Yep. If they don't move up to take Mariota, Gordon is projected in the early 20's.
I think they are going to trade up for Mariota tho. |

I don't know much about Alonso. But why would a Rex Ryan team trade defense for offense? Doesn't really fit his MO. - PLindbergh31
Why would a Chip Kelly team trade offense for defense? |

A lot of it is coaching philosophy. Your Clarkes, Orrs, Mikitas, Espoitos, Hulls all played a ton of minutes. In the late 1970's early 1980's it evolved. Now as systems and schemes have become more dominant, it's a different world |

No chance on Suh, their D line is pretty stout already. Fletcher Cox is a beast |

There is definitely a shift in the dynamic of the 3rd pair D men. There just are not minutes for these guys anymore.
I would almost say that if you want a "tough" guy on your roster, it should be a third pair D man, as long as you have those stud minute eaters on the front pair. |
