Berube may not be here next year

Rinaldo has very little rope left

Are there reports saying that or is it speculation?

McDonald's other metrics have been much improved this year as Berube has used him a more secondary role. He's not defending as much as in the past because he's not seeing the same amount of minutes or the same level of competition, which is probably the reason the shot block numbers are lower
- Jsaquella

That's fair. But the Flyers can pay other guys a whole lot less to play against third and fourth lines.

Exactly, wait for the right player.

No sense in blowing all your cap dollars on the BPA UFA.... again.

- Tomahawk

It isn't blowing up all your cap dollars. In the scenario I proposed, they'd be replacing Grossmann and Schenn basically with Boychuck and one of the younger defenseman. The "right" player isn't likely to come along anytime soon. The problem is that the alternative isn't great either. Sitting and waiting while prime years of your star franchise players whittle away. Those young defenseman that are supposed to be the calvary coming to the rescue are conservatively 3-5 years away from being able to take over top roles on the defense. It could be longer then that.

To outbid NYI for Boychuk we'd probably have to go up to 7 x 7. Does anyone really think that would work out in the end? Let's be conservative with UFAs for a change.

Yes. In MacDonald's case, as long as he has he has a decent season or two in upcoming seasons, the contract won't look so bad as D-man salaries continue to inflate.
- bmeltzer

Where have we heard that before?

I agree with everything you've said. I like raffl, but he's not a top line winger. Simmonds I think is blossoming into a top line winger more and more each year. He's starting to shoot a lot more now, he's scoring off the rush, added some valuable tools to his offensive skillset. Last year I feel like he was pretty one dimensional offensively- scored all his goals in close in front of the net.

regarding Simmonds

Homer gets ripped so much on his bad deals

the Simmonds and Voracek deals are two of the best in the league

give credit where credit is due

4,250,000 base plus 2 mil bonus.

edit: The most affordable yr of his contract is next yr where he grosses less than 5 mil

- mayorofangrytown

Signing bonus money isn't in addition to the base salary. All it it is part of the base paid up front by a certain date, or on a schedule negotiatated as part of the deal.

Please pardon my grammatical error. It's actually a typo. We've had some budget cuts, and I had to lay my secretary off. Poor girl, she's been with me since the beginning here at Hockeybuzz.

Good chance he'll be re-signed before getting to free agency. I haven't heard anything regarding his renewal. If the price is too high, can always say no.

Not me. Never gonna happen unless there's some sort of post-Christmas miracle, like that lame ass chump Coburn netting the Flyers a 1st round pick +. And we all know, since he sucks so bad, that's not gonna happen. Poor Ghoul.
- wolfhounds

hahahaha. awesome. we're never gonna let go of the fact that he b*tched and moaned about Coburn forever, are we?

That's always the way it works, with everything. Nobody gets credit for doing what they're supposed to do, it's usually only when they (frank) up that they get noticed.

Defensemen do a good job time and time again throughout a game, but one bad play and what is everybody going to remember the next day?

No car accidents for 10 years, then 1 fender bender and your insurance company is thinking about hiking your rates.

The brownies look and smell great...so what if you added horseradish for an extra little zing!

But defense is a complete team effort!

Who knows, Mase could go all Roy in his prime on us and make these guys look great.
