yes it would be very hard to do, but they have 2 firsts this year
I am on a bender this morning about not wanting to see another year of the current D and trying to spit ball options that don't include waiting until G and Jake are in the thirties to have a competitive D
probably the better option is to just wait it out and keep Amac and their draft picks - Marc D
Why is everyone freaking out about g and jake entering their 30s? Those are two elite players in this league... they're not falling off anytime soon. Look at getzlaf and perry. They're one year away from hitting their 30s and they're not showing any signs of slowing down. Look at Marty St. Louis. He still puts up pretty solid numbers. Jagr last year finished in the top 30 scoring in the league on an awful devils team. Last year aside, look at the sedins- they still put up respectable numbers. Look at Jason spezza. Look at Mike Ribeiro (again, last year aside). Look at Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleua. Datsyuk, steen, Zetterberg, parise, iginla, plecanek, pomminville. You get the point. I think a lot of you are terrified that Giroux and jake will end up like vinny. Once they hit their 30s- their careers will immediately go downhill when in reality, vinny is just an anomaly. What other true "elite" players fell off as hard as vinny did? I really do have trouble answering that question. |

did you hear Sather talking about how he went about getting Yandle?
really great stuff
he said him and Don would talk about it every time they were in town, and never could agree on the price, I guess Yandle is a guy he always wanted (so he says now)
anyway he said he thought they would be interested if he included Duclair, especially after the world JRs and everyone saw Duclair and Domi together
so he called them back and when he offered Duclair as part of the package, Don Maloney's ears perked up and he called them right back |

Bill, in your opinion is Lecavalier, and Umberger the only immovable contracts the Flyers have? - PLindbergh31
Yes. In MacDonald's case, as long as he has he has a decent season or two in upcoming seasons, the contract won't look so bad as D-man salaries continue to inflate. |

(frank) man. I'd love to be a GM or at least be close with one so I know what's being said around the league |

good points
for me it's not so much that they will drop off a cliff, but right now they seem to be in their prime and may never be better
and if they are patient and wait and build it the right way via the draft it could take 3-4 years before the D group is ready to compete for the Cup
nothing wrong with that approach, likely it is the right thing to do
The idea of ...
Schultz/Streit
MDZ/Schenn (or Grossmann)
Amac/Gudas
as their D for next year absolutely bothers me and that will be another tank season
maybe they have no choice and we have to be patient |

think we are going to see a better AMac next year as well...He got married this year, he was trying to live up to a huge new contract, lots of stuff going on for him..I agree he is a professional, but I think he will need this summer to get back to his game, because when he was with L Schenn for that brief period he looked pretty good in some of those games at the end of last season...
I think we will see a much improved player next year... |

Goulbourne signed - nastyflyergirl
Not Much of a surprise. He's having a very strong overage season. It is very likely that had the flyers not signed him, somebody would have. My only issue with them is where he was taken in the draft. He's not a bad prospect.
In terms of where they were in Junior, he has a better game than Rinaldo. He is a good two-way player, a mainstay on the penalty kill, a good skater and plenty of toughness |

Ahhh okay I understand. They might actually be in their best possible forms (moreso Giroux than voracek), but again, these are two elite players in the league. There won't be anything drastic as far as production drop off. As far as other players, we need to hope some forwards develop, we need to hope that couturier and laughton have an offensive "breakout" of some sorts, even with our stellar d prospects when they're ready, we can't rely solely on g and jake for offense. Secondary scoring is a must on ANY cup contending team. Especially in the playoffs.
