Edmonton was just an example. But I do think they would look at it. Michalek would produce as much as Ryan Smyth did for them and they loved him there. Cowen is still almost as big as Chara and has a shot and promise he just doesn't work in our system. and there is no denying that any one of Edmonton's stars could use a change. Plus we have a passed relationship with them from the Hemsky trade.

my point is less about who we are trading with but I do think we could get something of value forward wise from some team for Cowen and Michalek packaged together and then make a move on Del Zotto either now or in the summer.

Like I said before I think that works out well for both teams. makes sense for both teams dollar wise and bring a new look and energy to the Sens that we need.

As well as a bold move like that could go a long way in letting players here know that they are not untouchable and they need to get it together.

I love this guy.

Where's Tuna? I think you and him would get along.

Of course, that's assuming you aren't actually tuna, because you sound a lot like him.

So you bring in struggling players with promise like RNH or Hall or Ebs or Yak who could all be 1st line players.

Say Cowen, Michalek and a 2nd round pick.

That gives whatever team you are trading with. a possible top 4 D (if he ever gets his sh*t together), a Vet who bring experience and can still score goals and a bit of promise for the future

It helps us shed salary, gives us a new dynamic look and brings energy to our team as well as not breaking the bank on our future.

If you have any other suggestions I am more then open it them I love good hockey conversation and I love the option of trying to improve the sens that's why I am on here.

Your trade proposals are way off. Way, way, way off. And that's the problem. These guys are trying to tell you greening, michalek, etc, won't bring back a good player. They're right. 20 of them wouldn't.

Cowen has value. But not much. Muchalek is worth a depth pick, maybe. To return a player like eberle, yakupov, etc, you're gonna have to give up some serious value. Even if the 2013 draft were redone, yakupov would go top 10 or so still. What do you think you'd have to trade for a top 10 pick? More than a bust, second round pick, and salary dump for sure.

Thats why I suggest packaging them together. however if all Michalek is worth is a depth pick then I say go for it. His value on this team isn't going up I say we get what we can for the future out of him and dump his salary

As for the second art of the comment. I still think a deal could be made. That's what good Gm's do, they get deals done. Even if we have to give a bit, what we would be getting in return is building for the future. and hopefully to a cup or two or more

At this point any trade ideas or speculation is useless. Murray did nothing all month and can't do anything now

A decision to do nothing is, in fact, a decision to do something. Sens are playing really nice hockey. Karlsson has been phenomenal since Methot returned to the line up. Zibanejad, Stone, Hoffman, Lazar and Ceci are all having good seasons and they are all still on entry level, deals. This is the youngest team in the NHL. They are having a good second half. Fans need to be patient.

This is a nice team that many of us really like.

Can you honestly say you think this team as is will be a cup contender next year? or the year after? or any year after that?

I don't. I could see with the roster we have maybe making the 3rd round in the playoffs tops

Editing the bottom post a little to sum up:
Chiasson is underwheming right now. Signing him in the summer would create yet another overpaid underachieving player on this team. It's only a maybe if he becomes a 40+ point guy like we thought we were getting in the Spezza trade.

We all want to get rid of Legwand, Michalek, Greening, and Neil, but people need to wake up and realize no one wants them. Have to think realistically.

- Gord_Wilson_2.0

This point before a week ago would have not bugged me. What really bugs me Gord (and others listening) that other GMs seem to swing deals that no one expects (David Clarkson!) Milan Michalek has 2 years at $4M and is very much worth it right now. Playing with a play making center on a contender is not that big of a stretch. As far as Greening and Legwand go, I'll agree (only because of term!). If their pending UFAs like next year, no problem (for legwand only!). Neil ... injury or he'd be gone (sorry bcuz I'd miss him)
I give credit to Murray for taking advantage of the situation he is in, but the league needs to fix this garbage. The integrity of the game is being affected. Making deals, sending decent players down, for the purposes of trying to loose should not be allowed. It's borderline embarrassing to watch.
- Gord_Wilson_2.0

I don't have as much because why would you keep those guys? Are they young and have tons of potential? In which case you wouldn't trade away goalies but their in rebuild mode and maximizing their assets. What I hate more! - idiot GMs that hand out stupid contracts and got to buy them out. Lecavalier should be in Tampa but instead they get lucky and get Stevie Y in to clean the mess there; Rutherford given Semin his money should not be allowed to be a GM for atleast 3 years.
Can anyone name the only NHL team that has not made a trade in the last month?
- maaddmike

Crazy..... BUFF isn't an NHL team tho
Shame on him for not getting anything done.
- Maverick1818

Agree, Murray should of done something. If they start loosing again, or even winning a lot, they might regret it.

Wait.....you wanted Chris Stewart?? For a second round pick??

Now I KNOW you don't have a clue.

- TommyDeVito

So a 27 year old power forward that has been on the worst team (by a long shot) and can certainly be an effective player isn't worth a 2nd round pick in 2017?

That's not a bad deal and certainly not one to laugh at someone for being in favour of. I can see why either way (probably hitting FA)

I can certainly understand the frustration here.

This team is a weird situation. Most people here (myself included) were all in for a tank about 2 weeks ago. Now people are talking playoffs. This team has to go 12-5-5 to make it.

How can Prince, Puempel, Pageau, Wideman, Cleasson get time if Phillips, Neil, Michalek, Greening, Legwand, Smith all on the books.

I'd resign Condra and get rid of Greening somehow (convince a KHL team to pay him). Michalek is not that bad. Make a package, take care an underachiever with short term, there's so many F***ing possibilities. All due respect to Murray, he is ill and should be here as an advisory role to the GM (Alfredsson or Ray Shero) -- someone who has the health to travel, meet with Dorion - who should run scouting. I don't care if Dorion becomes GM and Alfredsson responsible for scouting. Fly back to Sweden and scout over there and have scouts here in Canada. Canadian and sweeds are playoff types
