On further thinking, I like this trade especially for moving forward. If we're incapable of retaining either Ehrhoff or Martin, we're gonna need some competent experience on the blue line. We can't just play Dumoulin, Harrington, Despres, Maatta, and Pouliot and expect them to be good. Cole is a 5/6 d man while Bortuzzo is a 7 d man. Cole can actually be a mainstay impact that I'd be comfortable with while the young guys develop, while I feel shaky about playing Bort on a nightly bases.
Now, Cole is RFA after this season. Gotta make sure not to overpay. |

You mean Kris Letang - dbell646
Well, that would work as well. Heck, he's no Mark Streit with the puck, but he's also not like Luke Schenn trying to handle a live grenade either. |

Ehroff is gone? Cole isnt coming to be a scratch and Pouliot deserves his spot in the line up. - buckster2342
I would be OK with this. Price of D look to move Martin too. One or the other though. |

only thing i feel good about is that Rutherford isnt going to make a move just for the sake of making a move.
shero would make a move today just because everyone else is. - SuperHenderson13
Shero would have traded every draft pick until 2020 if he could.

another idea:
could Cole work his way into the top 6, Pouliot moves up to 4 dman and Ehrhoff is shipped out?
interested to see what this next deal could be. |

Agreed. Either way it has to be one of the two. Maybe Bennett? |

I'm fine with the Cole trade, but at this point we're tinkering too much. Stand down, Ruth. Drink your 2 PM water and stand down! |

Not sold on Etem myself, but would like Beleskey even though he's on IR for 2 weeks. |

The Pens only have 3 legit top 4 dmen. There aren't any others available anymore. Trading Ehrhoff (who has a full NMC) would require another top 4 dman coming back. |

Pens lost a lot of grit on the back end with the Cole trade. Cole has like 70 less hits this season. Bortuzzo was a good skater too. Certainly wasn't slow. He drops the gloves too.
Not really a fan of this trade. |

He also is a liability at handling the puck in a system that demands dmen handle the puck.

another point, Cole makes more than Borts so if another move is to happen, i would guess some salary has to leave from the penguins end. |

Bortz' hits were not really good hits - surprised some of the counted. He was also a turnover machine. And his fighting prowess? MEH ...

Borts was far from a good skater. Worst on our D minus maybe Suds. |
