I agree he is the only one that makes sense. Wonder if they bring him up soon as we only have 12 F on the roster. |

Yzerman has a man-crush on Morrow, so Morrow is here to stay. Apparently, Yzerman's master plan includes a mysterious role for a guy who has lead in his skates despite the fire in his heart. I think Morrow is gone next year, but he is here for a playoff run. He will continue to rotate in and out.
Brown and Namestnikov will take Connolly's minutes.
There is also a role in the plan for Sustr, apparently. He has size, which cannot be taught. But, his eggs haven't dropped yet and his voice hasn't changed, so he needs more time to mature. Remember how gangly and awkward Chara looked for those first couple of years? I am not saying Sustr has a high ceiling like Chara did, but it can't hurt to let him mature a bit more before we pass judgement on him. Remember, Sustr has very few NHL games under his belt. Yzerman must see something in him, because our pipeline is stacked with solid young prospects and Sustr continues to get the nod.

I think Coburn is a HUGE upgrade for us, especially considering there's no guarantee Gudas would have been back for the playoffs anyway. In addition, we have him for the next 19 games. Coburn was the most solid all around defenseman available. Our problem since the injuries to Carle and Gudas has been soft d-zone passes and missed coverages. Coburn will go a long waysin curing those issues by bumping 3 other d-men below him down a notch. The effect will be even better when Carle returns. I love Connolly's compete but essentially he's still somewhat of a liability defensively so unlikely to be taking a spot away from Kucherov of Callahan. I agree that Yzerman didn't want to be in the same position next fall as he was losing Panik for nothing this year. I wish we'd have kept him and sent Vladdy down, he'd look really good next to Boyle and Drouin. Erne, Peca, Deangelo all turning pro next year. Morrow won't be back and I'd be surprised if the didn't find a way to move Filppula for cap certainty. |

And I'll be watching VERY closely to see how he does. His penalty minutes and suspensions are down and his point totals are ridiculous!!!! |

If he's junior eligible don't they have to either keep him in nhl or send him to junior? I didn't think Syracuse was an option. |

Specifically, the rule says that if a player played in junior before they were drafted by the NHL, then they have to either be 20 years old by Dec. 31 OR have played four years of junior in order to play in the minors . That second condition rarely comes into effect. It would only apply to players who began in the CHL at age 15. Deangelo should be in Syracuse next season. |

I assume Nesterov will be sent down as the Crunch really need him and the Bolts have enough to withstand sending him down when Carle comes back and I know tons hate him but I don't see Sustr losing the 3rd line pairing to Barbs. He is better then people give him credit, less then a 100 games having been forced to play top line minutes with Hedman due to injury, he is not great but will be a good 3rd pair guy into the playoffs.
As for Drouin, I just think doesnt want him on the top line this year because come playoffs Cooper must think he won't be ready but I would like to see him get time with Stamkos, when the Bolts needs goals in the third its the Triplets and Drouin/Stamkos with one of Val-Killer-Callahan getting the most shifts. |

We got raped on the Gudas trade. - omatty44
Honestly I think both teams made out well. Tampa had a spare first so trading what is going to be in the 24-30 range isn't bad got a guy like Coburn who has size and skating ability. Being on the 2nd or 3rd pair will really be a nice fit for him. For the Flyers Gudas most likely makes Schenn or Grossmann expendible in the off season and the first and third helps with the future. it also opens up cap space for a team that needs to remake the defense. just my 2 cents |

Looks fine Garrison-Coburn should be a good pair but to me Barbs is not going to pass Sustr based on everything Cooper has done with the two. And like I said for some reason Cooper doesnt want Drouin on the top line this year so I still think Killorn ends up there but I would like to see Drouin and Killorn rotate shifts if Cooper refuses to put him on the top line permanently. |

Agreed and well said.
We paid a high price no doubt but that was the market. Yzerman's brilliance shows in that even after overpaying we still have a pick in each round and 10 total I believe. Flyers had to move some salary and the ones you guys want to move (Vinny and others) are immovable so they started with Coburn and got some good pieces in return. Good trade for both sides
