I mean (frank) yeah, but why would that ever happen? Like, that's not even a question. You have the option of getting Kessel, you get Kessel. - Victoro311
I'm just not sure if it's enough for TOR seeing as we're asking for salary to be retained. But it's another winger locked up. |

That's what I mean. This is a garbage trade for TOR. If TOR called me up and asked me if I wanted Kessel with 2 mil retained for Sutter and Spaling I'd say yes as quick as possible, hang up, and then laugh hysterically. Then I'd go on to resign Winnik at 1.5 or lower, and look for a player that's just as good as Spaling but at a 1 mil or lower cap hit. They're a dime a dozen. |

Would you trade Spaling and Sutter for Kessel with salary retained?
Adams would come back into the line up and depth would then be AHL call ups if injured.
The filter down would slot Comeau back into the 3rd line where he should be. - walshy66
Dude they would want Despres/Maata/Pouliot to start, then Sutter and a first
Round pick. There would probably be smaller pieces on both sides. That's close to what they would want.
I can't even imagine what else Pitt would have to do to make the money work. |

This. And someone would still probably be able to put together a better package. |

Kessel would be a poor allocation of assets. we have seen the top 6 isnt the issue. the problem is the bottom 6 six. spending millions more on a top 6 that is better than a lot of other teams would be a poor decision.
the best things the Penguins can do with their cap is manage it for the next year or two and do what they did this past year, give out one year contracts to players to fill out the roster. then prepare to sign guys like Perron, Despres, Pouliot, and Maatta to longer term deals.
dishing out at least 4 million for kessel would be a mistake. |

Why? Because the Toronto media says so? - Victoro311
Because I say so. I don't listen to Toronto media.
Plus, the price to get an overvalued player like Kessel would be ridiculous. I'm not paying the price to get someone like him. Nope. That would kill this franchise.
There is a player on that roster I would covet more than him and this guy is a better player without question. |

I think you're opinion is incorrect, but that's pretty irrelevant since I agree. There's no way acquiring Kessel for whatever price Toronto is asking is worth it when our top 6 is as solid as ours.
However, in response to that absurd trade proposal of Spaling + Sutter for Kessel with salary retained, I wouldn't even think about it. Not taking that because of some misguided notion that he's a coach killer is ridiculous. |

Our top six could always use some tinkering. However, I don't have a high value on Kessel. He is a coach Killer. That is my opinion. He doesn't do anything that makes a coach succeed. |

For the that price (Spaling+Sutter+salary retained) he'd be absolutely a can't miss for us. |

If they could get him for the cheap, I would be ok with it...but I just don't see how the #s would work to be honest. I am happy with the 3rd and 4th lines right...well, as happy as we are going to get I think. The 4th line looked like an actual 4th line tonight. If they would some how take Sutter, Doums and something else not in the lineup, I would be ok with it. I just don't see why Van would take a crummy deal for him and retain salary. |

Yea its a no brainer for me. I dont think that deal gets us close to Kessel looking at what other players are going for. Especially how Toronto values its players. If they were truly sick of the guy so bad they wanted rid of him (like E. Kane), then maybe theres a slimmer of hope but I think we easily add a top prospect or even a 1st to that deal.
I'd rather have JvR. But if Kessel was possible...my god he would score a lot of goals next to Sid or Geno. And bumping down a Kunitz or Comeau to the third line more than makes up for the "loss" of Sutter and Spaling.

DK had a nice article about Johnston and Rutherford. I know most here arent huge fans, but I liked the article. Good quotes from some guys about where the team is at. this is certainly a change from teams in the past.
overall, i think GMJR has been one of the better GMs in the league. he has made moves that have set us up nicely in the next year or two without sacrificing the future and has gotten good value in all of his trades.

Part of me think we Still need a Polak type on D but oh well.
Plus I'd take M.Richards with $2.5M retained for Sutter right away. Richards has 12 points in 12 AHL games so far. He's better than Sutter. |

i think the defense is good. i think it has a nice blend of guys.
Letang and Pouliot- your offensive dmen. skate really well and produce offense.
Martin and Ehrhoff- your older guys who bring the intangibles. the great stick work and the consistency.
Despres- the younger guy prone to mistakes, but has the mix of skating and size with a nasty side.
Scuderi- say what you want, but i think he has been decent this year. a veteran guy on the back end sucking up bottom line minutes. he is a smart defender who would be useful in a series against Ovechkin on the PK.
I hope the penguins relax and open a beer all day tomorrow. i dont think they need a move. |

I'm fine with the D assuming Despres gets some rest and Ehrhoff will be healthy.
I will never change my opinion of Scuderi.
If there's a move to improve the number of goals we score, then I hope JR strongly considers it. I'm still worried about getting shut down offensively in the playoffs. |

I think our top line is set for a few yrs... I still feel malkin needs a winger that is younger and can build something with him... Something I wish they would do with beau... that's why I want a euro player for our Russian lol
Speaking of bennett how was he on the 4th line? How was winnik? |

4th line played pretty well tonight. Tough to gauge anything on against a tired Blue Jackets AHL team.
Winnik was not overly noticeable...had some nice plays along the boards and a nice feed to Downie for an assist. |
