The line is blurry between "rebuild" and "tank" but you're absolutely right (by that I mean there is a little overlap).

I am still undecided as to whether the Leafs are intentionally tanking. They had all their good players playing and the players failed and thats why they are in their current position. They clearly demonstrated to management they are incapable of being a playoff team and forced their hand to "rebuild". (Which implies giving up current assets for a chance for better future assets).

The overlap between rebuilding and tanking is that when you trade all your current assets for future assets, the byproduct is your team will start to lose more games because they'll be worse.

I don't think the Leafs are intentionally losing games. If they wanted to do that, everyone would be traded for whatever so the Leafs can have a better shot at McDavid.

Either way - I am not proud to be a Leafs fan right now. Either they suck or they are being gutless. I suppose its better if they suck and at least have a backbone.

edit: If today is any indication though, I might even say the Leafs are not rebuilding. They are (frank)ing failing at rebuilding cause they haven't done squat today.

It's dishonest. At the beginning of the year each gm should be able to say that he put the best possible team on the ice.
You put your balls and skates on each game and play to win.
You let the chips fall where they may and collect your draft pick.

He's the goalie in the AHL who pushed the net off so that he'd only have to face a penalty shot instead of a 2 on 0.

I'll be happy if Flynn turns out to be a good bottom 6 player like Weise last year. Good for the playoffs.

Seriously...the AHL made a rule immediately after that's called the "Leggio Rule" to prevent that.

That is why they should redo the draft. They should make it that the teams know where they are going to pick for the next 30 yrs. At least every team will get a 1st overall pick and there will be no more tanking.
