Gudas is 24, less than 1mil cap hit, hits like a train, fights like a beast, and is RFA after next season.
Coburn is 30, 4.5mil cap hit, good skater for his size, not nearly nasty enough for his size, UFA after next season.
Toss out that Gudas is out for this season. The Flyers are out for this season. Hextall knows this. The draft picks are the meat of this trade for Philly, but don't discount Gudas as a #5-6. Young, cheap, underrated defenceman. Makes Schenn and/or Grossmann more expendable, in the summer if not today.

I'm guessing Luke Schenn is next to go. At least thats what Hextall is hoping. Having Gudas now leaves Schenn useless. Hell he's been almost useless with the current crop of D-men. How about that turnover against the Rangers. Good gawd!!

Adding Gudas doesn't make another player useless. What it does is it gives the Flyers flexibility to move another defenseman after the season, if they choose to do so, to add cap flexibility, to make another move. |

If we all agree the Flyers are not a viable threat this season then why not move a Schenn or Grossmann now, while the market is sky high then the summer. If I can hatch a nice return today for either or both schenn and grossmann I dont hesitate to pull the trigger today.... |
