I like Coburn and I'm not a huge fan of Gudas, but I have an open mind on him. Not going to immediately re-sign him to being a waste. At the very least, he's a cheaper option to replace Schenn or Grossmann, which is a definite positive.
And I'm happy with the trade overall. If Gudas can be as solid as you and Tomahawk think he can, it's an even bigger win. - Jsaquella
We shall see, way I look at it. This defense needed to be rebuilt completely. I think Coby needed a change as well. Coburn has been on the decline..... |

I'm guessing Luke Schenn is next to go. At least thats what Hextall is hoping. Having Gudas now leaves Schenn useless. Hell he's been almost useless with the current crop of D-men. How about that turnover against the Rangers. Good gawd!! - GOA88
except Gudas wont be able to play this season. |

If you can trade Grossmann for picks and sign Gudas...you essentially replaced Grossmann at a cut cost rate with a cheaper d man... Although, right now, I acknowledge that Grossmann is a more rounded at this point |

Hell yeah, much rather have him next year than Luke Schenn at 4 times the cap hit. - BiggE
He kind of is Luke Schenn at the time of the trade, without all the baggage. Unlike Schenn, let's hope he actually develops further and gets better. |

I think I'd trade Grossmann before Luke Schenn. Schenn is younger, less injury prone. Grossmann seems more moveable with the year he's having.
Schenn has also been scratched and paired with almost everyone outside of Streit all season. I'd at least have him settle in with one D partner. |

Last time someone said that about a newly acquired player it wasn't long before I wanted the guy shipped out of town. |

Thats literally cut and pasted from his scouting report.
Assets: Is a great open-ice hitter and very good at disrupting offensive players' flow in the game. Will punish players with physicality. Also owns a heavy point shot.
Flaws: Doesn't have high-end puck skills, so he has a tendency to make mistakes with the disc on his blade. Also needs to harness his physicality and avoid bad penalties.
Career Potential: Aggressive defenseman with upside. - jak521
I honestly like the sounds of him. Nothing wrong with adding a little physicality to the lineup cuz god knows this team has lacked some this season. Aside from rinaldo's "game changing" hits

Just keeping score... we're now rooting for Tampa to lose in the 1st-round, and cheering for Chicago to make the WCF?

Oh my god I love sexy hexy. No one will say Tampa came out on top here.
Here are their hero charts for comparison:
Gudas:
Coburn:
So Gudas is a top 4 shutdown guy. He'll be a perfect compliment to Streit or MDZ. I'm so happy with this trade that it hurts a little. For just Timonen and Coburn, Hextall's added Gudas, a 1st, a 3rd, a 2nd, and a 4th that can possibly become another 2nd. Long live Hextall, like really. |

Still different players.
Gudas is different than anyone the Flyers currently have. He isnt a big guy.. Hell I'm a bigger d-man then him and im just over 6'1 foot and 210. He is vicious though. Hits really hard. Good fighter.
