In those terms, yes. I'm happy with the return. They got needed draft pick assets and a guy who might allow them to more easily move some of the high priced third pair guys out.

I'm not trying to poop on the return, I like the trade, Hextall got good value for Coburn.

They got a pick in the mid 20's(likely), a late third and a guy who is a cheap third pair defenseman. It's not a massive haul. It's also not a ton more than getting a couple of high second rounders, plus a third pair guy for him.

They got value for Coburn, I don't think they committed highway robbery.

I'm fine if they end up picking 7-10 & again at 22-26. That'd be great. They'd get two really good prospects there. Could end up getting a lot of holes filled now. They went from having two picks in the first 3 rounds to having 5 in the space of three days.

This defense had to be torn down and rebuilt.

They still have Streit and MDZ. They have cap room and a bunch of picks to play with. Hextall has a plan that he seems to be executing.

Lots of good factors to this trade. Like getting a first round pick, they gain cap space, and I like Gudas as a 3rd pair low cost defenseman. I'm just not going to ignore the big loss of Coburn and that now this defense has to be rebuilt to a higher degree. Have to see what further moves are made.
