I have no doubt they are going to miss him. No doubts at all

But we've all said this periodically, because it's obvious, and I am honest enough to admit what I'm seeing: That roster needs an infusion of pure, straight-up talent

Guys who can skate, pass, handle a puck under pressure, shoot and score and think the game, preferably with some size

If they are lucky, defensemen are coming. But the forwards...man, they need to throw some picks at it, looking for some high-end skill

I hate that Coburn and Timonen are gone. I really do. They were loyal soldiers who I wanted to see win here

But Timonen isn't coming back next year, and he and Coburn netted five assets, including first and second-rounders

Sometimes, you just gotta tip your cap to the guys who did their best and then get back to work and try to improve for the future

As much as I want to see him go, I can't see anyway they can move Vinny before July when his final bonus payment is made. At that point, his actually salary is:
15-16 2.5 mil
16-17 3.0 mil
17-18 3.0 mil

Maybe then, if they retain 50%, they can work out a deal somehow

If what they retain is less than the buyout amount, then great. But if not, or if they have to take a poop contract back, just buy him out and move on

If they retain 50%, the cap hit is 2.25 mil for 3 seasons

If they buy him out this June, its 2.8 mil for 3 seasons followed by 800k for 3 more.

The trade would be preferable

Let's put it this way. The Flyers had every opportunity to make a playoff push the last month or so and blew it almost every time. Thank goodness they have a gm that sticks with a plan. They were going to have pretty much the same roster as this year, next year if no trades took place, and they'd be pretty close to where they are right now again. Get rid of a couple other bad contracts, and the future is looking bright again.

I'd rather watch a team rebuild than fart along for most of the season aimlessly.

edit: i'm all in baby

- feelingkettle

Absolutely -- if the players didn't want guys to get moved, they should've won more games

I wanted them to win, and it sucks to see the aftermath of them failing to do so

But when you lose to the Blue Jackets twice, the Sabres and the Maple Leafs during a stretch where the Bruins were begging to get caught, then they have no one to blame but themselves if they got moved

Still can't believe they lost to the Maple Leafs. The Leafs literally have not scored a goal in two games since then. They were brutal before that, and brutal after that

That is un-(frank)ing-believable, losing to them, and if Hextall had any doubt about what to do, that loss was the one where you just throw your hands in the air and prep for roster surgery

I think they will miss Coburn, at least in the short term, more than many folks think, but this is still a great trade for a rebuilding team.

We've had the Coburn discussion, but Hexy got one helluva return.

Fair enough. I sure as hell hope somebody bites

If ever a guy needed to take a look in the mirror and retire, though, it's him. Can't believe he doesn't see where his game is

Go back to sleep, then get up to take another leak and maybe Luke Schenn will be gone, too

At some point, you just have to let bygones be bygones and just embrace the supreme quality of what we have covering our favorite team

I'll say this: If you moved Coburn, then you might as well listen on Streit

You don't move Streit if you kept Coburn, but since you didn't, if somebody asks, you might as well listen, because next year could/should be slightly better, but not so much that keeping Streit is a must

Not when I can remember when Philly papers had quality people covering the Flyers.

Hexy has one more deal in him today. As long as he doesn't trade his own first rounder.

Hell.. I would listen. There is always an UFA ( Green) that could replace Streit. He has been great for us. But if someone is going to offer a 1st plus... I am all ears.
