i don't care about the remaining dollars owed to him...what's the cost in cap space and for how long, 6 years?

is it possible they could come to a mutual agreement to just terminate his contract, and then he could sign with another team...or is there a provision against that in the cba...like he'd have to go to the khl or somewhere other than north america in order for that to be kosher?

- hammarby31

The first three years is dead cap of $2.83mm, $2.83mm $2.33mm, if I recall capgeek. Then 3 years of $833K. It would be better if they can deal Vinny and eat half the contract, but if that means getting a very good return for Coburn or a poor one, I lean to the very good return & dead cap space

Pretty sad on his part as the only player to be bought out, (if we do it), twice, but it has to be done.
He has a ring, what, 17 years in the league?
Not bad, I wouldn't hesitate to do it, this team has bought out, or dumped how many mistakes in the past?

Janmark and Backman... two really good prospects... for Erik Freakin' Cole... if I were a Wings fan, I'd be pissed.
- Tomahawk

They're not. They stalked as full as it gets with prospects to the points where they're comfortable with a splash and the fans here know it.

I think he has to realize that even on a good team with a legit shot at the cup he isnt fitting in in a top nine role. If he did... Well then that team wouldn't be very good at all then, would they?

I have a hard time seeing him retire. These guys basically do what their agents tell them to do. He's got lots of money in front of him still. He probably just rides the storm out until the Flyers have enough and buy him out.

Neither choice is easy, but if they can get an unprotected 1st + for Coburn, I have no desire to see it drop to a 2nd because they're taking Vinny.

That's a good point, ego, & an agents advise.

It was 5-2 Canucks when Elliott left. Jake Allen had started, Elliott went in and left and Allen came back.

now, it's 5-5

think about the cap savings though, 4 mil per usually gets you a good player Vinny and Hamburger are the rare case.

so you'd rather have the first and eat $/cap space rather than not, and have the pick be a #2. yeah, i can see why over the long run.

I'd rather have the better player and figure out a way to deal with the cap. Absolutely.

Totally fine with the first, and you can be damn sure I'd deal with the second as soon as the buyout window opened
