Toronto trades Clarkson for a retiring Nathan Horton. Shameful they can't lose with dignity.

In a sense I get it because people think he is a building block. I would move him to get the return and still feel good that - if I wanted him - he will be available later. Like Neuvirth, I'm not going to slit my wrists if I can't get him back later.

Some fans just can't let go. TM almost has a responsibility to move these guys before Tuesday and the sooner the better. I'm scared of them playing tomorrow and getting hurt, then we are really screwed.

#2 overall picks have a really shaky history of panning out.

That looks like a pretty good list of players to me *shrugs.

Although the WJC hardly equals guaranteed NHL success, the one thing Reinhart did was make his line mates better.

He was better than Domi IMO, and was Canada's top forward. Domi was flashy, Reinhart was smart and consistent.

Nope. NHL is fine with it.

Bill Daly says the league had "no concerns" about the Clarkson-Horton deal. "We look at every trade" for CBA compliance, he says.

Not at all. It is no different than Chicago putting Kane on LT IR and spending the savings from his cap hit. This is the kind of move that teams with rich owners can make. We took on Kotalik's contract and essentially bought a 2nd rounder - not quite the same thing but it is an advantage that we also have.

i figured all along there would be a market for stewart. id like him here next year but you have to trade him if you are gonna get something useful back. i never heard anything about murray trying to extend him. guess the only risk is him getting blown away in free agency- to the point that its just not worth matching.

Ya a lot of "good players". For every malkin there is a j. Stahl, JVR and bobby Ryan. All good players but they are all complements. So if we miss out on mcheichel this year and draft say 3 or 4 and grab marner or strome, him and Reinhart will be our top 2 guys. so compare them to stahl JVR or Ryan how much better is our team. Hell for comparison sake let's say instead of Reinhart or strome we have j. Stahl and bobby Ryan (two recent #2 overalls) on our team RIGHT now. What would our record be???

Kane/J.Stahl/Ryan
Mouson/ennis/grigorenko
Foligno/girgensons/Gionta

we better hope Reinhart and who we draft at 3-4 if we miss mceichel turns out better than those previous #2s. That team is not winning playoff games

People got so pissed off on here when that was said after the WJC...
I thought they were both great and couldn't really say which one was better but I really loved Sampson's game.

Busts. None of those guys can single handedly carry a team to the cup finals.

I get trying to move Stewart. Benoit and Meszaros are gone anyway, but I wouldn't mind keeping Neuvirth and Mitchell around after this season. What's the point of having umpteen 3rd/4th/5th round picks?

Exactly. No-brainer to move him and I'd be open to bringing him back as a reasonbly-priced 3rd line winger.

1) to get worse this year

(distant 2nd)

2) We will get (at the minimum) a second rounder for Stewart. As for the others... see reason #1

A lot of the stuff Domi did won't translate in the NHL.

Reinhart's intelligence and passing will.

he may not have a choice.. i think it has been shown that he is no more than a 3rd in this league.

If not, move on. I can't imagine given the status of the cap that he is going to get 4 mill a year again.

I can't imagine why Ottawa was interested in Clarkson as they have significant financial problems as it is.

There really was no question that Reinhart was the best forward.
