Bumps own quote....

Sounds like Murray has a deal in place for Stewart, just waiting to see if he can get anything better.

Strickland "Multiple teams interested in Stewart. One team says they're waiting for Murray to pull the trigger"

- ImThatGuy

it would be nice to get that one out of the way and move on to Neuvirth.. i hope we play the jolly green unprepared giant tomorrow

If there is a silver lining in all of this (I'm really working here) could it be that trade deadline days is the TMGM show? I picture that scene in Risky Business where the moving truck is backed into the yard and a guy opens up the door to try to sell everything inside.

He would only go for a significant return. Certainly not Stewart and probably not Vermette. He is considered a blue-chip prospect.

I hate to be Debbie Downer, and maybe it's just because I have experienced all of the crap I have being a Bills/Sabres fan for so long, but I just can't help but feel like it's over. I just don't see how Arizona and Edmonton are going to win enough games with the remaining schedules they have. I really think this last 10 days has screwed our entire season!

We should just trade Reinhart since you have already written him off from being anything that this team can count on.

The guy is obviously not going to mount to anything. I think we should follow the Boston model. I mean after all its not like Seguin is doing anything.

#2 overall picks have a really shaky history of panning out.

Not necessarily. I think you have to look at it from the perspective of a team that doesn't have the money to spend that the Leafs do. CBJ was going to be paying this guy not to play. So from their perspective they don't care as much about the cap space as much as they do about the money being spent on salary. If you have limited money to spend this deal does make sense.

Yes. These guys who go in the top 3 over the last 15 years almost always pan out.. just because he's not in the league immediately doesn't make him a bust

Its silly to compare anything pre-2000. Scouting has become a whole different animal since then.

who on that list is a bust over the last 15 years? In the past scouting was way more shady, since it has become so much easier to get exposure to the top prospects they hardly ever miss

Horton was getting paid either way but won't count against the cap as he is on long term IR. CBJ only has so much money to spend so they figured they would trade his bad contract for a guy that can actually play. Toronto makes out like a bandit in that they got out of the contract / cap hit and it only cost them cash (something they have and CBJ doesn't)

pre 1996 quite a few...

kari lehtonen could be considered but more because of injury

legwand isn't what they hoped

hedman isn't a bust but not what they hoped

JVR same as hedman and legwand

but still i agree i wouldn't count him out for a few years

Fairly obvious but that's where I would start and work from there. We have another late 1st to mess with as well.

To buy Coho out would only be a cap hit of 800k for 8 years (I think). So yes, we could save that cap hit by spending 30+ mill on Horton. That's a steep price to pay for a small cap savings.
