Yup.

Look at it this way, if Lupul and/or Bozak are gone at the deadline and Phanuef and Kessel are gone it the summer, we're closer to the floor than we are to the ceiling. I'm not saying lots of cap space isn't nice, obviously it is, but when you have a ton of it it's really not that big of a deal anymore. If Arizona sheds a bad contract is it a giant coup? Not really. It's nice to get it off the books but they aren't going to use that space anyway. I'm not trying to poop all over a good trade, I just don't think it's huge. If the Leafs were still a competitive team, or had any hope of being one, it would be enormous.

If his contract didn't expire for another 5 years, good point. But that's not reality. They should be able to compete in 5 years. If not, them the rebuild and the picks/prospects are failing.
