It's not a coup. Getting rid of Clarkson's contract only matters if they needed the cap space. They don't and they won't for a while. It was a pretty minor move.

It's massive given that he had 5 years left on his deal and the guy was going to go through all that term with a black cloud over his head because of that contract. It was supposed to be an impossible but necessary move.

Absolutely. Are we expecting Toronto to spend even close to the cap for the next few years?

They will need it next year to sign free agents. They aren't going to jeopardize development of their youngs guys. So if as actually a great move.

Minor in some ways. It will allow us to pick up more contracts and be compensated for doing so. Burke liked doing that. It's how we got Franson.

Some people. Like you. Literally havent got a clue.

This was an awesome move. Cap space is worth its weight in gold. Some people haven't figured that out yet

Removing him and th black cloud hovering over him is a big deal. Open space for other players. Create space to be creative to get more assets by taking bad contract.

This is more than a minor deal

Impossible, yes. Necessary, I don't really think so. It would absolutely be necessary if they were planning on competing within the next 5 years. I actually don't think Clarkson would have been the worst guy to have around during a rebuild. It's also no real loss getting rid of him. I just don't think it's a big deal.

Clarkson signed for the next 5 years......and this allows them to take on bad contracts and retain sallary to get better returns. Classic leafs fan right there
