Only because it would be the centennial and we suck as a team.
- Aaron_85

It's likely the leafs goal to ice a playoff team by then. Not a cup team but a team that everyone can get excited about.

There is much more quality leftys then rightys. I think
- Santo_44

There sure are, but what I'm saying is that I don't think quality right-handed shots are actually any more valuable than quality left handed ones.

I'd rather they gave us the 1st overall this year instead. The other 3 events will do nothing but increase league revenues.
- PrinceLH

Okay it would be fantastic to get McDavid or Eichel. It really would. It just isn't going to happen nor is it the ONLY thing we need to win a cup. How many cups has Crosby won compared to Toews and Kopitar? What about Stamkos? He hasn't won one yet either.

Relax.

Which means what? They'll be moved in the off season, but they'll damage the draft position. How many assets would it take, to move from the 7th or 8th pick, to 4 - 5 pick? Probably a first rounder..... So what's it going to be? Ruin the draft position this year, to trade them in the offseason, or do it now and keep us at 5? To me, it's adding one more year to the rebuild, if we let this draft get away from us.
- PrinceLH

I'm saying that if Kessel plays well he may garner, say, three firsts, instead of two firsts and a second, or similar value in return. The same idea, but more subdued goes for Phaneuf, Bozak, Lupul, etc.

I know where you're coming from though, when they went up 2-0 my blood pressure was rising a bit too, but then I looked for the silver lining, and found it.

Sure, we need a good centre like McDavid, Eichel, and Strome, but we may have to settle for a Marner, and whatever management gets in return for the assets they trade.

I wonder if we could make a trade

It would make allot of sense to have McDavid as a Leaf. All of the hate among other teams, would drive ticket sales. All of the Leafs fans doing their road trips can do nothing but make the league more money. Right now, I wouldn't spend a dime to go see the Leafs play. I did attend a game in Ottawa, a few months back. Guess what Eugine? I won't be going to see the next Leafs/Sens game, so money lost. Times that by 1,000's of road tripping fans and you can see that the league is losing revenue.

With Giordano being seemingly injured for the rest of the season, do any of you think Calgary would be willing to make a deal for Phaneuf? I can't think of any other D-men on the market right now, but with Sekera in LA now, maybe Calgary would want a minute-munching #2-3 D-man for the end of the season/playoffs?

We will have around a 10 percent chance to get McDavid. It's a bonus for us. Be happy with a top 5 pick regardless

I think Calgary is pretty much (frank)ed and definitely doesn't want to spend the assets it would require to get a defenseman like Dion during a year that they definitely aren't winning the cup anyway.

No but if they need someone to eat up minutes, they may come calling for Polak.

Toews and Kopitar play on teams with tremendous depth.

Crosby plays on a team that employed Craig Adams and Zach (frank)ing Sill.

That would actually make more sense...hopefully we'd be able to get their 2015 2nd, since we still don't have one this year

If lottery was fixed, League might want to throw McDavid our way to help Rogers make some $ back on TV deal

There is no silver lining, falling out of the top 5. None of those players listed will be available to us. We'll have waisted another year, trying to get our number 1 centre. Who knows what scraps we get next year, when the draft lottery changes? This is the year that we have to get our top line centre. The rebuild will be held up even longer, holding on to these assets past the trade deadline. The glory run is happening, right in front of our eyes.....it needs to be derailed...now!
