I sounded it out, letter by letter

I'm not sure credit is deserved.

Can I please pay somebody $25 million not to play

- Garnie

The board had to approve it, so it was their decision, Nonis just brought it to them probably via Shannahan.

The benfit to the on ice product is addition by subtraction. You're paying a premium for cap space. A necessary evil, if you will.

I find it a little amusing people giving Shannahan credit for it. It was the GM for Columbus and Nonis, yet some refuse to believe Nonis had anything to do with it.
- LeafMan

Until he is removed from the GM position, I give Nonis full credit on both his mistakes and his success.

Moving Clarkson is a huge accomplishment imo.

Not urgently, with a quarter season left to play at most. Let some kids get a shot.take bodies back in trades. Sign more Santos and Raymonds in the off season. We need to trade the core nore than we need to worry about bodies right now.
- systemtool

I think most of those will happen at the draft or in the summer.

By Monday I think it could only be Bozak or Lupul. But hey, I never in a million years saw Clarkson getting traded so anything can happen.

Money is not the major issue for the Leafs, cap space is.

It may sound silly to trade for a player who will never play a single game for the Leafs, but it tells you that the Leafs would rather throw 25M dollars in a trashcan then keep David Clarkson.

- Scabeh

Ouch, tough but fair assessment. Cap space is more important than actual dollars. I like the deal..

Fellow Smashvillain,

How can you not see the value of moving the UNMOVABLE, INDESTRUCTIBLE contract of Clarkson as a win-win-win?

Sure MLSE has to pay some dough to Horton now. Big whoop, we have literally zero vested interest in non-cap dollars.

Not like it's our 25 million going out the door

Last month, Horton said he wants to play again.. Is there anyway, we can prevent that from happening?

I don't think last night is an indication of anything other than Bernier being a freaking awesome goalie.

He stopped 47 of 49, and the only two goals he let in were both PP, one of which was a 5 on 3 that not even Price could've whiffed at.

I highly doubt he plays THAT well every night. Plus we'll throw Reimer in a couple times.

The only thing Nonis deserves credit for is being lucky enough to work for a team willing to burn money.
