It means when player X is one the ice, do we have the puck more than the opposition. If we have the puck more, we are taking more shots which equals scoring more goals.

There are a ton of factors that go into it though.

- sbroads24

I must be too much of a skeptic. Why would people rely on a statistic that measures player x's value by the conduct of other players? It sounds like reliance upon generalized data to draw conclusions about specific things, which may or may not be accurate.

In some contexts this sort of thing is called "stereotyping."

Not directed at you. I appreciate your explanation.

He hit 28 two times

Either way I wont miss him

- sbroads24

I wont miss him either, he isnt anything spectacular. I do believe he brings something other than goal scoring that this team otherwise doesnt have in the top 9.

Unless you want to count marcus breaks his hand everytime he fights foligno.

They have statistics that measure quality of teammates and quality of competition.

So basically, if Rasmus Ristolainen has bad possession numbers, and is playing with good teammates against weaker competition, theres a problem.

Theres a 1000 ways to spin it though, and that's what bugs me. You can make any player look good, and any player look bad depending on the statistic you use

There is no return on that investment.

I think Yost's point, though, is that he's looked at around the league as a guy who is supposed to be that "quality teammate", when he really isn't. There are guys who make players around them better, and there are guys that are "better" when they have really good players around them. Personally, I'm in favor of trading anyone in the latter category, and Stewart is definitely in that latter category.

You arent going to find a roster that doesnt have one player in the latter category.

Lets get a player who will make other players better and put chris stewart on his line. As young as our team will be, on a relatively short term i think chris stewart in our top 6 isnt a bad thing. He can score, play on the PP and players will think twice about running our young guys when he is on the ice.

I should have worded it better. I don't want to go through great lengths to retain a guy in the latter category. If he's not willing to sign a bargain contract, I take whatever I can get for him. You can get players like that anywhere.

There is a lot of evidence to suggest Stewart isn't very good. However I don't buy that he's awful either. He's somewhere in the middle.

If you ignore actual goals and points, Stewart is awful. But it can't be denied he has the ability to score

Ok i agree with that. I see him being traded and it doesnt bother me at all. I do however think something like 2 years at 10 mil would be appropriate in the offseason to see if he bites.

Over pay to get a short term, maybe not the bargain you had in mind. He would fill a gap at RW with size and scoring ability. We have the cap room and could bail just the year after at the trade deadline retaining 50% if needed.

Doubtful he would go for something like this though, will probably look for 4-5 years.

At the end of the day he was nowhere to be seen the 1st 3rd of the season.

It has been his MO throughout his career.

If he gets traded and produces through the end of the season, i doubt he is going to take a paycut. His cap hit is 4mill or so, what do you have in mind?

2.5 mil on an incentive based deal.

He is the type of guy that needs a deal like this to be effective throughout the whole season.

Not interested? Fine you now play for team x, thanks for the picks.

He'll go to team x then, incentive based deals are usually used on the older players. Someone will wind up paying him. Hopefully we're not that team.

I know he hasnt produced the last few years like his salary might suggest, but thats an awfully large pay cut, even if there are incentives. He could get injured for half the season in the 5th game, and there goes the incentives.

I see your point though, not interested take a hike.
