Hahaha nice.
I just youtubed to see some big hits, and mostly everything on there is titled "Winnik gets run over", "Winnik gets injured by..", etc. Hopefully he is tougher than his Youtube portfolio |

I saw the Kings sent a first rounder plus a prospect, any word on the prospect?
EDIT:
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Trade call still pending on Sekera deal. |

Only know that it's not Forbort.... we'll see |

Samuelsson was flipped for a fringe 3rd/4th liner that was a healthy scratch and a throw in on the Perron deal - not much value there. Jarry might pan out, might not - too early to tell. Harrington (and maybe Jarry) are the only real valuable piece(s) selected in the 2nd round since 2004. It's still not that much to give up. - mw630
Why only isolate the Pitt 2nd rd picks why not look at other 2nd round picks? |

Yeah, that's a pretty good deal regardless. Now to hope something catastrophic happens to L.A. in the first round. |

Well can't speak for the other guy, but to be fair we still have the same scouts that we had for all those picks. |

I saw an article that did all the research, and in the 90s-2000s, a 2nd round pick has about a 20% chance of being career NHLer (200+ games played) |

Paid more for winnik then tlusty went for. I'm a little uncomfortable with what we paid but I like winnik as a player. I'll say this for old man Rutherford he sees a player he likes he goes and gets him. |

The 3 fight videos he has on there are pretty bad ... he usually just falls over after taking 2-3 on the chin.

Because the Penguins traded their pick and not the pick of another team?? I'm going off of their history, their draft position within the last couple of years (likely around where they will be this year and next), and the potential they had for landing a truly impact player that would be able to help them the following season. They traded their 2nd round pick - it doesn't do any good to look at who CAR, BUF, FLA, WPG, CGY or other teams who pick at the top of the round. Their picks would have more value than an end of the round pick where the Pen's pick is likely to fall. |

New GM and who knows if some front office moves are impending. My point is to say that there isn't value in the 2nd round based off of a limited scope of debatable Pitts selections is short sighted when in reality there has been numerous strong picks there over the years. |

Listening to that as well. Such a douche.
I'll say I do agree with one thing though...scoring has been the issue the past number of postseasons, I'm not sure we've addressed the scoring woes yet. Tlusty and Bergenheim, though costlier, would have helped in this area more.
Perron helps. Hornqvist is a wash. You don't want to count on Comeau. Not much offense being produced from the backend, especially considering they're mostly OFD.
Not to be a negative nelly, just hope this is the first domino and Sutter is moved and we get more scoring potential. |

I still think Blueger will be a NHL player in the next few years. Right now, he is playing top line minutes on one of the best college hockey teams in the country. |

Well you did list johanes salmonsson who was the first pick of the 2004 2nd round. And Carl sleep who was the second pick of the second round in his draft. So looking at guys such as James Neal. Lucic or even Comeau who all were 2nd picks shows no value |

I wouldn't argue that at all. 2nd round picks are definitely valuable. I have no problem trading them if the return is right....and this one is very borderline for me. I would have given next years 2nd for Bergenheim (just as an example, disregarding cap space) |

That was embarrassing.
Horny wasn't a wash IMO. Neal never went to the net......that's why he didn't score much in the playoffs. |

That's true, and other earlier 2nd round picks that the Pens made, not other teams. They've had a history of not getting many impactful players in the 2nd round. All my point was circling back to was they could not, and should not, count on a 2nd round pick to provide depth in the immediate future, if at all. Their recent history has shown that - it could change in the immediate future or it might not. They have Crosby and Malkin in their prime, Letang and Fleury playing extremely well, and a chance to get on a roll going into the playoffs. Making this trade to significantly improve their bottom six (Winnik may not be a superstar but he is miles ahead of Sill/Adams) is a move I'd make every time. I can understand if you disagree with that, but to each their own. |
