OK. boys and girls. It's simply not the year for the black and gold. While it's not great it's going to be OK. This is an opportunity to step back, look at what you have and think about whats next. I think PC needs to identify a core of no more than 5 players, move on from what remains of the 2011 supporting cast and forge ahead.
The core according to me.
Bergeron
Krejci
Chara
Hamilton
Rask
The 5 guys are untouchable to me and the ones you build around. |

I agree with your untouchables. But having watched a few more games, I think Pastrnak should stick with the team. I know he doesn't have many games under his belt, but the kid has the kind of creativity this team needs going forward.
Edit: oh and welcome back |

I definitely wouldn't want to see him go. But, I'm not a huge fan of having wings in the core unless they're elite. Unless someone can come up with one I am having a hard time thinking of a successful rebuild around a winger. |

I get that. But i think the primary focus is to rebuild around the C, D and G. Having a winger or two in the core doesnt hurt, because they arent the primary focus of the rebuild, just strong supporting cast. (can be traded if need be, but only reserved for the really big trades.) |

I think you would have to put Marchand in there too, him and Bergy have chemistry together that's pretty hard to come by, especially on the pk and those two seem like the only two on the team that put it in the net on a consistent basis. Plus he's seemed to tone down the idiotic behavior this year, which has been nice to see.
Maybe not untouchable but the offer would have to be something outrageous. |

Also drafting well helps here. This is something the Bruins have done poorly. There are no answers in Providence. This is something L.A. and Chicago have done well. They can let guys go and replace them with their youth.
Also, the Ottawa love affair needs to stop. They didn't win anything, Pete! You got Chara and overpaid Kelly. Redden was gross, just (frank)ing stop. |

Thats just it. But I wouldn't call a guy like Marchand untouchable. I think the 5 guys I listed, losing anyone severely hurts the team. I like Marchand's production but for a good return, you could survive it. |

Good point. That could likely happen.
I guess the thought magically bringing in an impact player from Krejci's LTIR cap relief is probably a pipe dream. A perfect storm would have to go down to acquire new player on an expiring deal, slip into playoffs and have perfect timing for Krecji to be back at the same time.
If Krejci's timetable was a little longer it would be different. - Tachmo
neely indicated that the league would have and issue with them using Krejci's LTIR money to bring in a player, and then activate Krejci after the playoffs start when the cap no longer matters.

How is that different from Kane if Chicago, makes the west final and he's ready? |

Not sure I include Big Z in there, but I mean, realistically he's not going anywhere.
Ya seems to be the only real option which does Suck, but basically they need to just make the Playoffs, square off against the Habs in the 1st round and see what happens.

Honestly rather they didn't get bounced 1st round by the Habs. (frank) that.
I believe Chara's play has more to do with his knee than his age. I don't understand the sudden speed arguement against Chara. He was never fast. Using his size to take away time and space has been his game. Hard to do with a wonky PCL. |

yeah I'm not sure, except Kane is gonna be out 12 weeks, Krejci 4 - 6. The example they were using on the radio is to say.. have Pittsburg IR crosby with a concussion, trade for a player, and have Crosby show up once the playoffs start all rested and happy. not sure how the league would address it, or what they've said to teams about it, just it seems like Neely indicated that something had been said to them. |

yeah, a big part of it, he should have had surgury in Nov, he'll probably have to have it once the seasons done anyway. I also think seids will be better next year with more time to recover from his knee. There is no way his game could have dropped off this fast. |
