That is my point. But I think the Flyers are in the Penguins head for a few years now, and would have a real chance to win.
- MBFlyerfan
I agree that they're in their heads, but this Penguins team is the deepest since the Cup team (although losing Maata was a huge blow). I think they just have too much up front, especially with adding Perron, that they'd take out the Flyers unless MAF reverts to 2012 form.
But, it would be a hell of a bloodbath. |

Nah. He'd be playing grab ass with Holmbatrosses MacDonald and L. Schenn in the Shelley suite. |

it would be pretty spectacular if we could make a trade for some assets and still make the playoffs......hextall for nhl exec of the year if that happens? - hogweed
San Jose traded Douglas Murray for picks in the midst of making a playoff run, so it can be done.
The problem I see is there are other more attractive rental UFAs then what the Flyers have to deal. Unless they are making Del Zotto available which would be a mistake imo. |

The question was asked if we want Del Zotto out protecting a 1 goal game late. I think Del Zotto has certainly been the Flyers most dynamic defenseman, and has been the best at helping to generate a better attack, but I think it's overblown saying he's a first pair defenseman. With being said, the elements of his game that he adds are crucial to this team. Streit is a solid point producer and puck mover, but he doesn't move up on the play as well as Del Zotto does. Del Zotto has also held his own defensively, and is very competitive in his own end. So while I do trust Del Zotto defensively, I think there are better choices to put out on the ice in late game situations with the lead. Again, that's not a knock on Del Zotto, just using players in the right role. - MJL
Okay.. Again, I am not saying he IS a first pair d-man. He has been playing that way though. He is getting the ice time. He is producing offensively. He is playing in and exceeding in all situations. Since the new year he has only played 3 games where he got less than 20 minutes in total ice time. 5 times he has played 24:00 or more. He is a minute behind Streit in TOI/G despite averaging less than two minutes per game less PP time.
All in all, he has been our best d-man for the past couple months. Not just offensive, but all around. He is seeing top competition. He is getting the hard minutes. He is playing in all situations. He is our top pairing d-man. That doesnt mean he is Drew Doughty. |

yeah given all that and watching that shootout start with lundqvvvist at one end and boosh at the other i wasn't all that optimistic - hogweed
I can't even remember exactly what I was screaming at every Rangers shooter, but I'm glad there were no children around. I do distinctly remember jumping up and down and basically throwing a tantrum the entire shootout. And I do remember crying a little bit when Boosh made the save on Jokinen. |

If some team is stupid enough to give us 2 2nd round picks for Schenn/Grossmann, I think the Flyers have to do it. Because that was just a plain stupid trade. |

Nope. When you say top-pair, you obviously mean league-wide.
Obviously.

Drew Doughty is the only top pair defenseman in hockey when you think about it. Go ahead, think about it |

I think someone would trade a 2nd for Grossmann.
Lots of teams could use him for a playoff run.
Even elite teams like Chicago and Montreal have problems with their third D pair and depth guys.
Two 2nds seems like too much though. |

That's my thing. I know some people will disagree, but I think Grossmann could be a huge boost to the Flyers if they make the playoffs. But it's entirely likely a team offers a 2nd round (probably 45-55 range) pick for him. I'd want to do it, but I'd be hesitant. However, if someone offered 2 2nd rounders for him like Douglas Murray got, you basically have to do it. |
