Islanders re-sign Nick Leddy to a 7 year deal

EDIT: Cap hit is $5.5m

I guess I just don't agree with the "Berube is a terrible coach" claim I always read.
- J35Bacher

I think you could do worse, but by no means do I think Berube is Scotty Bowman or Ken Hitchcock or guys like that.

I think it's helpful that he played and if he's a smart coach, he delegates things that he is weak with. Like, I doubt Craig Berube knows more about running a PP than, say, Joey Mullen does.

I think he's fine to have around as long as he's not hurting young players or stifling a player's development. If he's doing that, he should go.

I wonder if they'll be able to lock up Boychuk too.

I think they'd be able to. Should be interesting the following year though with Okposo, Strome, and Nielsen

Apparently BUF is getting fed up w/ Zadorov already:

I kind of feel bad for him, assuming he's being honest, cause that feeling when you wake up late for work after not setting your alarm clock correctly is terrible.

Maybe Buffalo needs to get Danny Briere back to house wayward hockey players.

I disagree on that being the sole criteria.

With some luck there will be some youngsters on the blue line next season. Is he a coach who can work with them next year and in future years?

- Scoob

I don't think Berube is "horrible"... but I also don't think he's very good. Not only judging by his roster decisions, but just his timing of in-game decisions. I personally don't see him as being "the guy" to develop good young talent.

Just my opinion. There could be worse people in the spot.. but there is definitely better out there.

And team personnel aside - since he isn't responsible for that - he isn't a cup winning coach. I just haven't seen anything from him to prove otherwise. So if you lack the development aspect, and the "cup-winning" aspect... I wouldn't even think about signing him to an extension. But then again, all is up to Hextall.

Considering this is only his second year. It is easy to say the others are better as they have had more time and you know what they have done. I remember Guy Boucher was the hot guy. Now I think he is in Europe. Your comment about running the PP I guess is because you think Berube was a goon and never on the PP.

Bill Belicheck seems to be a great coach. Where did he star as a player. He seems to be able to create a scheme and system for the Patriots.

Yes he is. With the Flyers cap trouble, what if a team offers MDZ an offer sheet?

No, I don't mean it like that.

Every coach has to delegate and trust. The Phillies, for example, had problems when they hired Charlie Manuel because the nuances of coaching in the NL didn't come naturally to him. Therefore, they hired guys like Davey Lopes to help him with that.

Even with Belichick....he has to delegate.

Joey Mullen played on some great power play units when he played....I'm guessing he's got an idea or two that maybe could have escaped Berube.

Gotta let him slide, imo. No way can they pay another defensman on this roster $5+ million without having really proven themselves. I love MDZ, and I really hop they can re-sign him.. but not if it means breaking the bank. Another stipulation of that kind of money would be, you would have to lose someone... whether it be Coburn or Grossman.. or if by some chance you'd get a taker for McD or Schenn...

Here's to hoping they work out a deal and there's no offer sheets..
