You can pretty much guarantee that Berube will be the head coach of the Flyers if they make the playoffs.

As a matter of fact, if I'm Craig Berube's agent, I'd even ask for an extension. His line of reasoning would be something like: "Berube has turned this chicken poop roster into chicken salad and a playoff spot for two straight years. Please pay my client more money."

And he would be right.

Cmon now.... do you think the man doesn't deserve it?! He's proved he's a bona fide elite nhl coach. He considers himself in the same tier as quenville, babcock, etc. PAY THE MAN HIS MONEY

He did evolve into a legit heavyweight in the 90's in the heyday of The Dan Line. I didn't follow the Flyers heavily back then, but he had severe mobility problems early on before any injuries. Was just never very good (from what I remember) at hockey aside from being able to fight.
- jmatchett383

disagree he didn't have severe mobility issues before the knee injury. his rookie year he was fine; granted he wasn't any speed demon. the knee injury killed him as a dman. took him a few years to reocver

I thought he was serviceable on the wing at the time. yes he was slow. Like to hear bills thoughts on Kordic and his knee injury.

Jason bowen I wish they kept him as a dman instead of flip flopping back and forth to the wing. Don't think that helped hima nd he had bad coaches. I always liked him just didn't pan out.

At what point did LA, Boston, and Chicago intentionally sell off all assets in an effort to intentionally lose and gain a plethora of draft picks?
- jmatchett383

Never mentioned Boston. Chicago was too long ago for me to remember specifics but Lombardi traded 14 players for primarily picks from the time of his 1st draft to the time of his 3rd draft. It was bookended by moving Pavol Demitra his 1st draft to moving Mike Cammalleri at the time of his 3rd draft. The other 12 occurred midseason as early as December and January well before the trade deadline; guys like Craig Conroy, Brett Sopel, and Mattias Nordstrom and Brad Stuart, so not just no names. The trades all had primarily picks going to back to LA. So I would say that Lombardi decided to sell and be terrible well before the seasons were over including some of the best players on LA's roster at the time.

Here a link to the trade histroy:http://kings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=40851

And if conversation happened and I was Hextall, I'd give him a $500 bonus - enough for a plane ticket to go anywhere in the Continental U.S. after the season was over.

Well, I didn't say that.

I'm just doing my best Ari Gold impersonation.

I don't think Berube is anything special as a coach, but I don't agree with the characterization that he's some punch drunk moron behind the bench either.

As far as I'm concerned, he's kinda average. If someone came along that could reach these guys better or diagram their way to being a contender with their current roster, then I'm all ears. But I don't think that guy exists.

That's fine, if Hextall has someone else better.

I am a bit surprised Montreal traded Sekac. I would have been interested to see him on the Flyers, LW with good skill and fast. Oh well.

I think the Flyers did try to get him. Must suck in a way because he picked Montreal over others.

when he signed this summer the Flyers reportedly had interest.

I hate to say it, but if he can get this team into the playoffs, with that D corps, maybe, just maybe, he deserves an extension.

WTF?

Focus, maturity and professionalism remain in doubt for the 19-year-old.

I don't understand, 19 year old kids, especially rich professional athletes, are typically models of maturity and professionalism. I'm with Buffalo on this, clearly there is something wrong with this kid who went right into the NHL after he was drafted and they should cut their losses on this (frank)in irresponsible deadbeat by trading him to the Flyers for Rinaldo and CC. Addition by subtraction.

And don't even get me started on Ristolainen and what it would take to get him in a Flyers jersey.

I disagree on that being the sole criteria.

With some luck there will be some youngsters on the blue line next season. Is he a coach who can work with them next year and in future years?

I was just kidding dude. That's the problem with the internet, hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic lol Is berube a bad coach? No. Is he a good enough nhl coach to coach a team to be consistent powerhouses? Probably not. I see him as a good interim coach.
