Because you only ever get good players in the top-10 and players are better suited for the long-term by learning that's it's okay to intentionally lose games than trying to win. - jmatchett383
I'm not advocating losing games on purpose and I am pretty sure I said its hard not to root for them and hope to see them get in. and of course you can luck out with the Giroux's later in the draft but I like the chances better with a top 10 pick and I want to see them get additional picks moving forward
Bullpoop, because Edmonton will be direct proof that it doesn't work.
You still haven't answered my question. Since they can't, by your definition, win the Cup, wouldn't they have been better suited gutting their team and just forfeiting every game? - jmatchett383
Edmonton built terribly. They have only had 6 picks more than they should have in last 7 years. That's less then one extra pick per year. Lombardi upon arriving in LA acquired 7 extra picks in his 1st 3 drafts. Chicago between 2003 to 2005 had 14 extra picks over those 3 drafts acquiring Crawford, Byfuglian, Bolland, Bickell, Brouwer, and Hjalmarsson all after round 1. Edmonton has been a complete failure in recognizing talent after the 1st rd in top of that. You still have to actually succeed in making those picks.
We will see if they would have been better suited blowing it up this year versus carrying on in the mediocre middle. If the teams that have detonated their roster start to pass them and win a cup while they linger on in mediocrity, then they should of.

I'd rather the players and front office continue to push for the playoffs (unless a crazy deal comes along) and let the draft chips fall as they may as opposed to purposefully trading away good players to get more picks and improve their chances of losing.

The odds are, without a doubt, much better when drafting earlier rather than later. Aren't they?

Just me though. - jmatchett383
Improve their farm system. Build from within. That's what I would prefer.

I don't want to see them just trade people for the sake of it but they do need to move some pieces, esp on defense.
