We cannot be down on that trade. Sekac showed some potential but obviously did not fit into Therrien's plans. Has needed to get tougher for the playoffs and they did. He scored 27 goals in 55 games in the AHL last year so we know he can score. Has have no player of that nature in the farm, but they do have skill coming up eventually. They could afford to sacrifice Sekac. Let's see how it turns out....for the Habs. I think Sekac will strive in Ana.

one thing i agree with is, if Sekac was going to be in and out of the lineup and bounced from third to fourth line, this is a great move. would still like to see a top-6 addition though.

It will be interesting to see how Therrien utilizes him.

if that happens we should stake out a big spot for HBers along the parade route. we can take turns guarding it throughout the run.

Now that cakes is gone and DSP is here to help the team push through the playoffs, the one thing missing is Lupul.

That was my first thought. Maybe Sekac was not happy sitting games and being played on the 4th line and it showed in practices and meetings. He had a tremendous upside for offense, something the Habs clearly need desperately, but MT didn't seem fond of him; maybe DSP will surprise us all; but I seem Sekac being the bigger score 5 years down the road.

Perhaps.. Brunner had a good first year too but really couldn't adapt in the end. Maybe they saw a bit of that. And again, maybe they see more into DSP that they can develop and use. If he fills initial potential, he becomes a more talented Gallagher, so I think it's a risk by both sides on this one.

I realize that you joking. Too bad his contract is so atrocious, otherwise it would be an interesting move for the CH, ?I think anyways.

Like I said earlier, that was the evaluation a few years back but the numbers don't seem to back it up. Maybe Sekac wanted out or maybe Habs didn't see enough progression and think they can help DSP fulfill his potential. Who knows.

43 points in 55 games in the AHL last year. Hasn't translated yet to the NHL. I wonder where they intend to play Smith-Pelly. He certainly fits the profile to be next to DD and Pacio.

He is, but Weise and Pacioretty seem staples on the first line right now.

If Lupul was a UFA... yes.
