Food for thought:

Sharp was hurt in the game on Nov 4 against Montreal, and returned for the Dec 9 game against NJ.

Up to the game of the injury, the Hawks went 7-5-1.

While he was out, the Hawks went 11-3.

After coming back, and up to the time of Reif's death, they went 4-1-1.

Post Reif's death and with Sharp, they have gone 13-11-3.

I hope I didn't miscount anything along the way.

Regarding Sharp alone, they did have that more recent game at Anaheim post all star break, where Sharp had 4 assists, the 2nd line looked great, and the entire team itself looked unstoppable. So, idk...

Last I checked those Cubs tickets weren't anywhere near as expensive. I grew up a Sox fan and I still like to take in a game at Wrigley in the sun during the week. How cool would it be for the Sox and Cubs to face each other in the World Series. The bar fights would make more headlines.

Cubs tix prices are back up to crazy level.

1. Fan excitement is back up

2. Even less seats now because of the bleacher seats not In place at the moment.

poopty seats are going for $100 at least on stub hub

So he's less of a fan because he lives in a different zip code and doesn't have season tickets?

Sorry to tell you this Paul but you're optimism and glass is half full BS is no longer welcome here...at least until you move and attend a few games.

How many players have been signed for over 10 mil since the new nhl contract went into effect?
the question is not really not about "Fair". It is about the additional verbiage, home town discount. You want to look at home town discount: Look at Hjamerson.

I am also not saying the contract is totally bad, as it may reap benefits down the road in the last few years of the contract if Toews is not burned out or out of hockey because of too many head shots and Kane not slowed by injury. I am fairly certain this contract was agent driven, Toews and Kane would both be happy playing for 9 mil with a better supporting cast and a better chance at a cup every year. But yes, the Canadian dollar busted, who would have thunk it.

FWIW - skilled players need the supporting cast, the more they play and more tired they are, they lose their advantage and are more prone to injury like an Orpik hit. It happens.

Brookbank is playing in Russia.

I heard he tried to play for the Wolves, but didn't make it or signing price too low. But with the ruble falling, not sure if dollars were involved.

Wow, I didn't know. Thanks for setting me straight. My office is a couple of miles away so a couple times in the summer I bail on work about the 3rd inning and buy a ticket a scalper got stuck with. Never had to pay anywhere near face value.

in addendum, Tom Brady has it right. He has restructured his contract a few times (taking a discount) in order to get players on the team.

I just asked Mrs D if we could move back. She said no.

IMO...no clue how anyone could call the T & K deals "hometown discounts". Also, the CDN dollar will rebound if....oil returns to 100+ a barrel.

So do you want $4 gas and a 75M cap, or $2.25 gas and a cap crunch?

Krejci out 4-6 weeks.

Theres your new sharp destination. Assuming they cap space but since cap geek is gone I can't confirm that.

- SteveRain

The Brutes have less cap space (and defenceman) than the Hawks.

If this "issue around a player in the locker room" is true, my guess would be either Sharp, or Bickell. Both guys who are nowhere close to earning their paycheques this year with their play, and the other guys in the room can see that obviously.
- Hawksfan37

As much as I dog Bickell, the kid actually is a great guy, ya just want to see him get that motor racing! Thee other guy.... Well , you guys be the judge........ I'll leave it at that!......... & to the fellow posters I may have annoyed with some of my latest off the wall rants.... I apologize. I might not be the best at thought process or cyber skills being some what older than you fellows. Just understand my frustration as you all probably have some of the same going on right now. In the end I am sure they will get it right! Still have doubts about Stan Bowmantressman!...... Later boys!

And Sharp is still a Hawk.

Im feeling Sharp to the Panthers for a nice return.

Plus

Raanta and Shaw sent for a legit defenseman .

- mrpaulish

It would just like the 'Hawks to trade sharp to the big cats tonight and then he nets the GWG is his 1st two games as a panther.

I thought initially they would sign for close to the same money as Perry and Getzlaf...But that was wrong thinking.

Kane and Toews were younger when they signed long term deals than Perry and Getzlaf and deserved more money. Basically they got the market price, comparable to the Ducks 2 stars and that would be the best comps possible.

Bowman had a chance to get the pot right and shuffle the deck this past summer. He thought the group deserved to stay together...

As far as Q goes he has been consistent and rides the best players. Last time I checked Toews and Hossa are still killing penalties and Q won't change unless he has to.

Bowman stood pat and many GM's in a similar situation would have done the same after winning 2 cups.

Home town discounts seldom happen...The Hawks were very fortunate with Hammer because he left large on the table to stay here.

oh boy, tough call
The Hawks still have a chance with boys on the team even at that price. But Stanley can't make many mistakes and we will need a few players to play above their pay rate for a few years.

Figured as much. Thanks.

I doubt they move him. They should but won't. He will wait until the summer. Then all the Females in the 25-40 demographic will burn their pink t shirt jerseys in protest.

If there was more disposable income per family in the US this would have worked out fine for the NHL cap. When the economy hit the skids in the US it basically went the opposite way in Canada.

Yeah...that about sums it up. Also would help if guys like Johns, Pokka and Dahlbeck develop rather quickly into actual NHL talent.
