We did that last year with Goc and Stempniak. Who would you want to target?

No more Adams and Sill should really be more than enough itself, as long as we don't replace them with Glass level crap.

Here:
1)find picture in google images
2) click picture so it pops up
3)right click the picture and select "copy image url"(it should end with .jpg or any pic extension)
4)paste that into one of your replies on here
5)highlight what you just pasted then click the IMG button in the reply window. That should frame the posted url with these "img" in brackets

I much rather see what Sundqvist can do as a 3C than bring in Staal who would eat up cap space that can be distributed elsewhere.

That is a big leap though...

Also is showing our strength against anyone not in the Metro, and that Caroline is just really bad. If we do dodge Metro teams in the playoffs, great for us lol

11-9-3 since Jordan Staal returned to the lineup

That's a 39-32-11 over the full season or 89 points.

So you are basically slotting in Ehrhoff as the 2nd D, without being really optimistic to it.
I think Despres can make the 1st pairing with Letang, and have Maatta Ehrhoff as the 2nd.
Also Dumoulin instead of Bortuzzo for your 3rd pairing.

However... I just don't see getting Scuds dumped for nothing. Just a pain to plan to get rid of him, when it seems less and less a chance.

No necessarily Ehrhoff, though he would obviously be an option. Petry, Sekera, Methot, etc... would all be options.

In short, any solid Top-4 Dman that would cost & be worth about $5M/yr.

would have very much liked him, but he already got resigned to a decent deal.

Almost no predictive model for any industry can identify all the statistically relevant variables. However, that doesn't mean the identified and statistically significant ones should be ignored either.

To make an analogy on it, if you are driving to work today, you most likely do everything you can with the variables you have control over which are most likely to lead to success of efficiently arriving to work on time. Some notable variables would be departure time, speed, route, driver and vehicle condition, etc. However, there are unknown variables that can intervene and play a major role in the trip (other drivers, traffic, cops, road conditions, etc.) that are generally unaccountable to control methods.

So what do you do if you want to make a statistic of time it takes to get to work?

Do you average out your times over a period? Do you note down effects that made the trip longer?

You can collect all data & make the statistic accurate by noting down each event that transpires daily & form an accurate mathematic summary of the voyage. Then with all collected data you can form an estimation of the time it 'will' take before you leave - that is, if you have a traffic report of what it's like on that day, is it raining that slows people driving, accidents, etc.

You can predict with confidence what you your travel will involve. There are variables that can not be taken into account - blow tire which may occur 1 in every 100000 voyages but that can be taken as chaos.

The analytical data that I have seen in regards to the NHL is no where near as accurate nor does it detail much of the important data that affects that particular result - player Corsi is a perfect example. The data is there to be collected it just hasn't been as yet. It appears through comments I've seen, that the stats people are waiting on the smart chip for puck & player movement. They don't have to, the data is all there & can be amassed by the naked eye - how many times a player touches the puck, what zone the possession takes place, the shots taken by player RHS LHS, the goalies saves technique & goalies GA - goals can be a variable due to the same shot not scoring every time but the data would be interesting to see.

The NHL is getting on board & many bloggers already are but to say people that have doubts dont get it is wrong. I appreciate the data as it is but still don't take it as serious as most.

In science they can predict through mathematical algorithms, to this point no one is predicting anything with the advanced stats but I have heard them called science.

Funny how several dim-wits around here have been arguing since the beginning of the year on this blog that advanced stats were useless and only for nerds and bloggers; that NHL teams were only claiming to use it to get fans to shut up and were not actually serious about it.

Then lo and behold the NHL announced they are spending years and millions of dollars to not only incorporate the frequently used stats, but they are also going to also look to improve and create new ones. Needless to say they've not had much to say since then.

- ImScore71

I'm not a hey sayer about stats - I just question their accuracy & have provided examples to prove my point.

A couple of things to think about before blowing any trumpets;

The NHL is getting on board, ok, they are changing & enhancing the stats not staying with the current version. That says to me they are not satisfied with the current version.

If the advanced stats or analytical data was accurate then contracts would be based on their results. I would love to see Jagrs agent go to Lou & say "my clients hero chart is of its rocks now pay him 7m for the next 3 years". Lou would open his office door & walk out. Does that sound silly?

Rinaldo put a hit on Green (not much of one, mostly missed him) and Mike Green did his best "I'm tough and will crosscheck you until you turn around" bit. So Chimera came over, gave Rinaldo a gloved shot, and grabbed him. Rinaldo didn't drop his gloves and never even raised his hands. Chimera pulled him down and threw an uppercut at his face. Chimera got 2 for roughing and 5 for fighting. Rinaldo got 5 for fighting.

Now, I'm not saying it wasn't hilarious, justified, or fitting. Hell, I don't want him in the lineup. The fact is, the majority of this board wanted "fair treatment for all players" after the lack of a call on the Ovechkin slash on Letang. The same people were complaining about how it was unfair that Downie always got reputation calls. So I just want to see how those same people feel about Rinaldo getting 5 for fighting for not dropping his gloves/raising his fists, if you can take off the glasses and give insight on just the call.

- jmatchett383

I saw there was a fighting major for Rinaldo & thought that didn't take him long!

If that's how it went down then why did Rinaldo get a major? I tell you why, the officials are all for evening up the game especially when it's a known grub, so they gave them both majors. Now what does that tell Rinaldo? I think he will definitely do things different next time, he will throw a little more dirt in the hit to justify his major that get will no doubt be getting.

It all comes back to the zebs. The players know this & it should be a concern for Bettman more than eliminating fighting. The zebs are creating an outcome of a game more than the players are & that is called corruption.
