Ah, my apologies... When you are posting it says "Message Reply" in the black above the text box. Lazy on my part. Just the box where you post is where this is all entered.

Jim Rutherford gave up THREE 1st round piocks to acquire a young Glenn Wesley.

Jim Rutherford signed Sergei Federov to an offer sheet worth $38 Million in 1998. Detroit matched, making him the highest paid NHL player in history at the time.

Rutherford has never been afraid to spend to get the pieces he wants. He's always operated on the basis that he'd rather overpay to make sure he got what he felt the team needs as opposed to waiting and hoping something else turns into that piece.

- BINGO!

Yeah, I understand that the Pens, if they really want him, will do whatever they feel is necessary. I am not saying the Pens won't go above what I would be willing to give up. But I am just saying if the Pens give up one of the young d-men and a 1st, I don't think it would be worth it. Not with the cap headaches it would cause and not too mention if we added a $6 million cap hit, we would only need more ELC type guys, so it is counter-productive to move a near ready young ELC d-man and a 1st.

So is 87 done with 14 on his line now? Kinda hard to argue when PH had 3G in 2 games and 87 had 3 assists. Don't see how you take PH off that line now.

That should be set in stone now... the whole team seems to have improved from that swap.

They did try Perron with Malkin and Comeau and Kunitz with Crosby and Hornqvist a few times last night, so I would not be surprised if they try that some more, but more or less, it will probably be Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist going forward.

Getting away from Staal a bit, the weekend games were great, but it basically re-enforced what we already knew about this team. When the top six (and PP) is scoring, things are great. But the bottom six is still very weak.

Looking at the 11 games in February.... Pens scored 26 goals. 21 of them were scored by top six players (including a couple PP goals). Only 5 were scored by bottom six players, and Sutter's goal Saturday really doesn't count because he was on the second PP unit (goal scored as penalty expired) with Perron and Comeau.

So, really only 4 goals in the month for the bottom six. That isn't good.

Also is showing our strength against anyone not in the Metro, and that Caroline is just really bad. If we do dodge Metro teams in the playoffs, great for us lol

Damn, I just noticed the Pens only play once in the next week. What a load of crap that is. Pens better give their best effort of the season on Wednesday against the Crapitals. No excuses when it is the only game they have until Sunday.

2 of 3 Hornquist's goals were on the PP so that didn't have anything to do with the regular lines. But yes Hornqvist is better suited to play with Sid than Geno. But I'd still like to see Perron given more of a chance with Malkin

Hopefully management recognizes this too and instead of focusing on major deals like Staal or Petry, target a number of incremental improvements in the forward depth instead.

Know I am late to the party, but I would very much be in favor of briging J. Staal back (though it seems unlikely that will happend due to Carolina wanting to hold on to him/the cost in terms of assets being too high). He's a great player & adds that elite element of a shutdown F that is so under-rated.

In so far as those who say "The Penguins shouldn't/can't pay a 3rd line C $6M/yr," I would very much disagree. I care less about what a player's pre-determined role is than I do about collecting quality players overall. If the Cap was $72M next season & the Penguins unload Sutter & Scuderi, the Penguins could role with the following line-up:

LW C RW
1F Perron Crosby Hornquvist
$3,812,000 $8,700,000 $4,250,000

2F Kunitz Malkin Bennett
$3,850,000.00 $9,500,000 $900,000

3F UFA Staal Dupuis
$2,000,000.00 $6,000,000 $3,750,000

4F Spaling UFA Downie
$2,200,000 $925,000 $1,100,000

Depth F Sundquvist
$925,000

1D 2D
1D Letang Maatta
$7,250,000 $894,000

2D UFA Dman Despres
$5,000,000 $900,000

3D Pouliot Bortuzzo
$1,288,000 $850,000
Depth D
Dumoulin
$850,000

G Fleury UFA Backup G
$5,750,000 $1,000,000

Total $72,000,000.00
Cap Space $306,000.00

Not a huge fan of the 3D pairing w/ Bortuzzo, but there is always the trade deadline & hopes that either Dumoulin or Harrington can improve to the point to knock Bortz down to the Depth D posistion.

Still, the price for J. Staal would be huge (ie, Harrington + Kapanen + Jarry) to the point of it being just too expensive for the Penguins to realistically pay it. Glad the GM checked in on it, but the price is assets is what would keep me from pulling the trigger, not the Cap situation.

I much rather see what Sundqvist can do as a 3C than bring in Staal who would eat up cap space that can be distributed elsewhere.

So you are basically slotting in Ehrhoff as the 2nd D, without being really optimistic to it.
I think Despres can make the 1st pairing with Letang, and have Maatta Ehrhoff as the 2nd.
Also Dumoulin instead of Bortuzzo for your 3rd pairing.

However... I just don't see getting Scuds dumped for nothing. Just a pain to plan to get rid of him, when it seems less and less a chance.

Here:
1)find picture in google images
2) click picture so it pops up
3)right click the picture and select "copy image url"(it should end with .jpg or any pic extension)
4)paste that into one of your replies on here
5)highlight what you just pasted then click the IMG button in the reply window. That should frame the posted url with these "img" in bracket(see what i bolded in your post)

I think an addition by subtraction of getting rid of Blackhole Sutter would go a long way to making the 3rd line more capable. He drags down anyone he plays with. Can't see how the team can reasonably compete with him. Another depth forward to prevent Sill or Adams from ever seeing the ice again should also be high up on the list.
