You are so qualified to determine NHL value.

That'd be a validated comment but they aren't even AHL quality talents so...

He's actually been better with Malkin if you can believe that. Really solid numbers. Not bad with Crosby but better with Malkin.

I didn't see it. Sid and Horn were lighting it up early on this season, then Horn was moved with Malkin and the points dwindled to a trickle.

Farm team related note...

Matt Murray just posted his AHL leading 7th Shutout in 25 starts this season and his 3rd Shutout in his last 4 starts.

With Fleury extended and both Murray and Jarry in the system the Pens goalie situation is quickly turning into a potential strength.

What I'm liking is the all the pucks to the net. A couple shots passed up but nothing like it has been....is that the Sill factor?

He's been up and down.... He started off slow... then had an absurd GAA in December and January of something like 1.38.... now he's struggling again.

At the end of the day, the only number that matters is the goal number - against & for.

This is the thing with advanced stats - but his numbers have been really good?? But doesn't score of assist on a goal. His numbers might be down, but if he scores that is important because that is what will win the game.

Advanced stats is data that is matched with a game - a finished game. You should not take them to predict or set a game plan in my opinion & therefore not an effective tool for game previews - ie: don't set your lines according to the data history alone.

Bear in mind he spent some time on the shelf. Aside from the early work with Crosby there's not a ton of stuff to speak of in comparison to Malkin.

Look up his career salaries... he can't price himself out of town.

I don't know what it is about these lines but other than replacing Sill with Downie this is the lineup that NEEDS to be happening the rest of the season. I now know beyond a shadow of doubt that Adams uses his NHLPA position as leverage for having a position on this team. There is no WAY you could otherwise justify his appearing in this game and no Downie. When Ehrhoff comes back it would be criminal to sit Pouliot(the future face of the franchise) and play Scuderi or Bortuzzo, in fact trade both of them and bring Dumo and Harrington up, put all the cards on the table.

Bortuzzo will go down... Scuds has no tradability with his LNMC and high contract (we seem to have forgotten only 6 or 8 teams he can go to, all that would be top contenders when he signed), and of course... HELL NO TO HARRINGTON. Kid is not ready whatsoever.

And I like the theory on Adams besides just the "super veteran presence".

What do u think is a realisitic contract with Comeau whether with us or open market?

How can you not? Especially when it helps to make clearer who is more effective with who? Chances and possession are driven better with some players better than others. That's the game today. Can't shy away from it. This team, as stated by coaching staff, is about those things. Possession and then shot volume based on chances because of that possession. If Player A creates that with Player B I'm keeping them together versus thinking I can't because of some goals or assists. It's an inconsistent game most of the time in terms of production overall. You can't overlook what is created from playing correctly because of some production that's fleeting. You play what works best for the system and who drives the things you want. That leads to production.

Lets say he ends this season at 20 goals... won't get more than 2.5 mil anywhere tops, even on a 1 year deal. 7 mil for 3 years, maybe 6.5 for 3. Around that area would be pretty high. If he couldnt get more after a 24 goal season, I don't see why he would breach that now.

edit: to give more specifics... His 24 goal year, he then signed a 1 year deal for 2.5 mil. He flopped that year, then got 1.25 mil, then 1 mil, and now hes 700K. Injuries have not helped him whatsoever, so hes got the injury prone label as well.

i think the place the penguins need to focus on just as much as the salary is the years. we can't give guys like comeau 3 years.

What I'm worried about is someone like Beniot Pouliot getting $20mil ($4×5) last off season and he's NEVER had a 20 goal season

I highly disagree... a guy like Comeau is who you would want to get for 3 years at a lower price. He has this top 6 potential, but lets say he regresses? You don't think him regressed is not a quality bottom 6 player, at about 2 mil or less? You'd rather another Glass come here?

That is a fair point, but Blake has had 2 seasons with good goal scoring before. He has shown the capability, but due to bad years with lesser centers and injury, his price is low.

on second thought, I saw Comeau was 29. i was thinking he was 31 or 32.

i wouldnt have a problem with him for 3 years, my mistake.
