I wouldn't get my hopes up.

It can't be the same defense core next season. Can't sell that.

This time last season I'd say Grossmann should be the first to go, but now I'm leaning towards Luke Schenn. Speaking as one of his biggest early advocates, he just hasn't been good at all. I know he's young and all that, but he has 482 NHL games under his belt. That's about 30 less games played than Grossmann, Voracek, and Simmonds have. It's only like 120 less games (that's a healthy season and a half of games) than Braydon Coburn has, and Mark Streit isn't very far from that either. I've been trying to believe for a couple years now that there's more to develop, and more to show, but I'm starting to doubt it. I think he's probably in his prime already, and to be honest, I'm ready to move on from him.

I think Coburn goes, because he'll get you the best return, right now. He's got size/reach and moves well for a bigger guy and has good playoff experience. He could really help a team gearing up for the playoffs.

I suspect either of Grossmann or LSchenn goes at the draft for a pick or something.

Also, I'd consider dealing Streit, but only in the right deal.

I don't want to see Hextall make a move to bring in any Dmen. Our prospects are too close to the NHL to give up considerable assets, I think.
- JAKEw1234

The thing is, they still need that top pairing stud. Even if the prospect pan out, they are years away from being top pairing dmen.

Morin and Ghost will be serious candidates to play in the top 6. If not on opening night, then later on in the season after some AHL time.
- Feanor

Possible. Still have to clear the way for them. Are we going to watch L. Schenn and MacDonald rotate as healthy scratches again next year? That is a complete waste of resources.

Quiet TDL for the Flyers incoming.

I'm not sure he makes the deal if he's not confident he can move some defenseman before next season

I think Shultz could be a guy next season to be a 3rd pairing guy with one of the youngsters.

Tbh, I thought Manning did a good job when recalled. Could hopefully be a decent bottom pairing guy.

I feel like they want Ghost to work more on his defensive game before he sees more NHL games, especially since he lost so much time with the injury. We'll see though. His offensive skills might be enough to earn him a spot next year.

It would be ideal to have someone like him as a 6th next year. It would be tough for Berube to use a high paid dman as a scratch for a long stretch

Also, I'm not sure what else Manning can learn in the AHL at this point.

Its unfortunate Coburn has had such an injury plagued year. I think the most likely return for him would be a 2nd round pick. But it probably could have been better otherwise

Exactly right IMO. At least one is going at the deadline I'm convinced. This talk of boston becoming sellers is making me nervous though

I think Coburn or Kimmo could go to Anaheim. They could use a good vet and losing Vatenen hurts.

It'd be nice if he learned to control himself. He takes a ludicrous amount of penalties for a dman.

Yeah, I was actually just looking at that on Hockey DB. Not sure how he has enough ice time to put up the points he has when he's in the box so much

If one of them pans out, they may not be as far away as you think. I'm not suggesting that Ghost has a high chance of being a Karlsson type stud, but if he does pan out, Karlsson was 21 when he had his breakout season. Ghost is 21 now. Pk Subban was like 23 for his breakout season. Drew Doughty was like 20, and Alex Pietrangelo was like 21 during his breakout season. If any of the four horsemen establish themselves as top pairing Dmen, the past suggests that they could definitely do it in their early 20's.

I think some of it is he also is relied on as the vet on the team so sometimes he gets involved in things protecting maybe a younger player. Some of the games I have watched he takes on that role with the Phantoms.
