Leddy was a salary dump no matter what you think of him and the same with Campbell.
My point remains the same...Sharp isn't going to be traded for a roster player near his value.

Which I covered in my first sentence. It has nothing to do with what I think of Leddy as a player. The market said what he is worth. A prospect, a AHL'er and an exile. We can coulda shoulda all we want, Al. That is the return he brought.

that would be unrealistic to say the least.

Campbell was a pure salary dump. As far as Leddy goes, I am not sure what people expected for a 6th D who didn't progress far enough to not be benched in the playoffs. People can point to his age all they want but the fact remains he had almost 300 games of NHL experience and should have progressed far enough to be able to play minimal minutes in big games. Well, we saw what happened when he had to play. It wasn't pretty.

For all the praise he gets his pace has fallen since the middle of December and he is on the 1st pair for the worse defensive team in the league.

Nester....
There are 8 teams which have allowed more goals than the Islanders.
On the other hand there are only 3 teams which have more points.

If I eve get audited I would like you to come with me and defend my position to the IRS....Because with your fuzzy math I'm sure they will be more confused after we meet than before.

Because they could not take on any salary ....and it was about a day before the season began. 2 big factors you left out...

We can speculate that he could have garnered more at the draft but I have seen nothing that even hints at an offer. I find it incredibly hard to believe there was a better offer at that time and he wasn't moved. UNLESS there were other factors at play at that time.

Islanders?

GAA/GP is 2.79

Rank 22nd

According to my research anyhow.

Not very good, and will likely doom them in the post season...but who knows.

Again....They couldn't take on a salary and when was the last time you heard a significant trade happening 5 days before the regular season began??

There was basically only one team that had cap space to take on a $3.5 player....Garth Snow had the space and that's why he was able to get Leddy and Boychuck for a song.

My point was and still is Leddy was dumped for cap relief, no different than Campbell. When that happens especially at such a late date you get what you can.

If Halak keeps playing like he did last nite there will soon be no teams that have allowed more goals than the Isles.

Wristers on stick side go in too frequently on him. Good luck with that in the playoffs.

He still was a 6th Dman and we both know those don't get a big return. Maybe a bit more because of potential but judging that trade at this point is premature.

I don't think I ever said they were a Cup team but they don't have the worst defense in the NHL.

Also....I never thought much of Halak...gets hot for awhile and then usually gets hurt. Much of the time he is a C+ goal tender.

That said there isn't anyone on this thread who would have said on Feb 17th the Islanders would rank 2nd in the East and would have 3 more points than the Hawks.

....You can stop now you never liked Leddy, but he was the 5th/6th dman on the best defense from 1-4 in the NHL and probably the best defense from 1-6 much of the time he was here.

David Rundblad, who shouldn't dress for any playoff team fetched a 2nd round pick.

As I will be happy if ANYONE wins a Cup other than your team of goons.

I almost want the Blues to win a cup more just to piss you off over the fact that I am a die hard Blues fan.

Not exactly something I worry about. Your leader would have to show up in a big game for that to happen. History shows he won't.

Rundblad's NHL's resume speaks for itself....Think Cam Barker. His best days as a hockey player were before he got to the NHL.

I will stop but again the original point was correct and it had nothing to do with the merits of Leddy as a hockey player.

Sharp if traded and I think he will be...
Will be a salary dump trade like Leddy and Campbell which wasn't about acquiring an effective roster player.

Not that hard to believe when you look at how terrible that division is, and the fact that PIT and NY have been plagued by injuries all season long.

Islanders would not even make the playoffs in the Central. 10-8 vs. the West, and 4-5 against Central teams this season. Must be nice to beat up on weak, divisional opponents (19-3-0).

Maybe. Maybe not. He still has less than a 100 games of experience. He is playing on a team that is putting up better defensive numbers than they did last season. His metrics are better than people think.

It's nice to see versteeg have his game back

But

Jimmy Hayes now has more goals than toews

I understand he's getting top 6 and power play minutes that he wouldn't have gotten here, but it would have been nice to have that Hayes waiting in the wings to replace a likely bickell dump upcoming when we need to clear cap

If you use that logic last season's Stanley Cup Final should been played between 2 Western Conference teams. The Islanders are having a great season considering their stage of development...Actually their point total regardless is a very good performance so far.

If Sharp has a great playoff he doesnt have to be a salary dump like Leddy . Could get valuable assets fpr him of he scores about 5-10 goals and the Hawks win a few series

Rundblad has a nice shot when given the time and space to wind up....Everything else is AHL quality otherwise he wouldn't be on his 3rd different franchisee since 2012.
Like I said, think Cam Barker except he was mid 1st round pick.

One more time....
If Sharp is traded it won't be for an as valuable roster player because the salary can't be absorbed.

Even if Sharp wins the Conn Smythe....It's a math problem and Bowman won't deal a $5 mill salary and take back close to as much.
