I just don't think there's any way Stan can't find a buyer for Sharp in the off-season that doesn't involve giving up a pick/prospect. Mostly because the actual experts, like McKenzie, keep saying that the market for players with cap and term is bad right now but will be better in the off-season. I'll believe his opinion about trades/markets more than almost anyone tbh.

Yes - I didn't mean that picks/prospects would have to go with Sharp.

And Vermette has 3 goals in his last 20 games (also a -10 in those games).

Get it done, Stan.

I second that!

Because trades, man. We need more trades!
- CBHawks88

Thank you for helping me remember that important fact. That's what it's all about and I keep forgetting. Some stupid thought about winning always seems to confuse me.

No but did those teams have Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook? talk about a worthless point to bring up. Obviously a trade does not guarantee a cup win. All it does is guarantee that the Hawks are a better team that has center depth and a quality forward that plays a 200 foot game, can kill penalties and chip in on offense. Also, Sharp has 1 goal in 20 games or so and was also on the 3rd/4th lin in the playoffs last year. Tell me again how a 5.9 mil/year player is providing value in the bottom six of a cap-strapped team??
- EnzoD

Those teams did have players like Crosby, Malkin, Martin, Letang, Bergeron, Seguin, Chara, and Rask. Let's not pretend they didn't have elite players too.

Also, Sharp played the 4th most minutes per game in the playoffs last year so it's incorrect to say he was playing 3rd/4th line.

Oh, sorry, there's so many ridiculous trade pitches on here, they're all starting to blur together.

Tbh if Vermette was signed for another year, I would be more willing to give Sharp straight up for him. Sharp is the better player, but having an additional center for next year would be nice. It's the rental aspect that is bothering me.

I will post on Twitter as well...

Nice job Al, I like the way you represent without being too much a homer. You summed it up perfectly, the Hawks are not going to be an easy out.

I gotta listen to this. I thought he would be crushing Rosy, Carcillo, Johnny O and TT and then start gushing over Boomer Gordon's Islanders.

Vermette will love Winnipeg if he owns a bearskin coat.

Vermette to WPG would be great... so Stan can focus on more important things, like acquiring Jeff Carter.

Not trying for the brown nose but I listen to XM all day and hear all of the "insiders" around the league. Some have their heads so far up their arse. They would never say something bad about the team they cover. If it smells bad, Al does not call it a rose, and as a station that serves all hockey markets ( like HB) there is no place for rose colored glasses only facts. Now back to my red kool aid here.

You do realize that the Hawks play in a much tougher conference, and especially division...right?
- Ogilthorpe2

That's the thing. You have to factor in sch. when looking at stats. Islanders play in weakest division in hockey and they would not make the playoffs in Campbell conference. Only a few teams from East could.

Conversely, how are they not? Just because you aren't impressed by the current sample size or would like a little more sandpaper in the lineup?

I love how the Kings are so revered here and seem to be the only team capable of "flipping the switch" come playoff time. The Kings would be a wild card so by your own logic with three teams ahead of them why would they be the team to beat?

- HawkintheD

More important is the WLT record against the other top10 teams not against all 30teams. Chicago is 14-4, What are the other top10teams.

Its all about the roster and how deep the teams are.

There's too much emphasis put on the regular season, come playoff time the road to the Cup in the West goes through Chicago and LA. Regular season success means zilch. I was at the Hawks final regular season game in 2010 when they lost to Detroit and lost the top seed in the conference by 1 pt to the Sharks and there were some who basically thought the Hawks postseason hopes were lost that day. How did that work out for everyone?
- dan9189

Yes, man.

Roster and how deep the team is, is what matters.

This summer I could see something like Sharp to Montreal for Sekac, Tinordi (or prospect) and a pick.

Just because those guys have size doesn't mean they have the brains or other skills to play in the NHL.
- Bjm84

That was not the point. The original point was the Hawks don't draft big players - I listed those three just to disprove that concept.
