Your job isn't on the line until someone above you decides that it is.

You go about this thinking that owners don't change their minds about employees and their recommendations, just because plans are enacted.

Maybe Ed Snider's watching games in California and he decides he doesn't like the plan anymore. Maybe Ed Snider thought they would still make the playoffs, even if he was told that it was a possibility that they wouldn't.

Maybe Ed Snider is like most wealthy individuals in that what he wants today doesn't always match what he wanted yesterday.

Does the fact that he agreed with it 12 months ago mean anything when he's firing you today?

- AllInForFlyers

Maybe Ed Snider sells the team. Not going to happen. Neither is firing Hextall if they miss the playoffs this year.

One positive, even just going through one round, would be to have some of the kids around for the atmosphere.

Yes, it's a reach on my part, but if they do happen to get in, you gotta look at the potential good it could do.

Things always happen with this franchise that no one sees coming

Thinking that Ed Snider has learned patience at 80-plus years old, when he's never displayed it, is something I will have to see to believe

What I believe is that thinking there will be no consequences to missing the playoffs under Ed Snider just because there is a plan is a dangerous way to go about looking at your job security, but that's just me

Jonesy says AMac missed last game due to a funeral?

Perhaps Luke Schenn should have been scratched tonight instead of AMac.

- MBFlyerfan

MacDonald has missed the last two games due to a death in his family. Coburn returned Sunday and only saw one shift in the third period.

I feel one of the biggest problems is the amount of changes to the line up. Luke Schenn alone has seen time with Del Zotto, MacDonald and Colaiacovo, with sitting time.

Ed Snider has been around the game a long time. Flyers have missed the playoffs before. There may be consequences, but one of them won't be firing Hextall.

Yes, they have missed under Ed Snider

And the last two times they missed under Ed Snider, within 18 months of the start of the playoff season missed, both coaches were removed and both GMs were replaced

Hextall is the safest out of anyone I'd say. The guy hasn't even had the chance to make one major signing yet. And it will be some time before we see how any of his draft picks pan out. Unless the Flyers become bottom dwellers I would say he's still got another 3 years at the very least. Coaches come and go. GMs tend to stick for a while.

Hexi, chief and Homer's jobs are safe. They have a "weekend at Bernie's" thing going on with Ed.

The Flyers could've finished last overall this season, and Hextall is safe.

I think you're beating this drum a little too much.

Like MJL said, it's Hexy's first year and he openly stated that the plan was get younger. His moves back that up. It's not to say that Hextall is infallible. It just wouldn't make sense on Snider's end to hire a person who probably pitched the idea during interviews, allow that person to state that to the media, allow that person to back up his words with the actual moves, and then fire him because he changed his mind mid-season. I get it. Snider is impatient and wants to win. That being said, I think Hexy gets at least another year of or two of "getting younger" before Snider tells him to start winning today.

Hitch had been around for...four, was it? And Laviolette for a bit-more than three-plus

Clarke's run was a decade, Homer's was, around eight

I know you already know that, because the point you're making is that Hextall won't get the gate after one.

But you have no way of knowing that, because the Flyers haven't missed under a first-year GM

Projecting what Snider will do is far more perilous than me saying it's better to not expect Snider to do nothing

I thought it was pretty obvious Snider hired Hextall knowing that building through free agency did not work anymore, especially after Pronger and Bryz. Patience is the new motto for the higher ups.

Yea, I do know that. Stating that the Flyers have never missed the playoffs under a first year GM isn't very concrete. I wouldn't want to base my opinion or outlook on what's going to happen based on that. That's razor thin.

It didn't make sense to fire a coach three games into a season, but they did it. I've seen them fire a coach eight games into a season.

I've seen them fire a coach who took them to the Stanley Cup finals THAT SAME OFFSEASON.

I've seen them fire a coach who had to take time off for cancer treatments.

GMs have gotten more rope...but again, not when the team has actually missed the playoffs.

I'm not beating the drum too much. Look at the history of the Philadelphia Flyers, and some people aren't beating it enough

MacDonald missed the game in Columbus due to the funeral, missed against Buffalo despite being with the team and is a healthy scratch again tonight.
