I wouldn't put Kessel in the same grouping as Perry, Kane or Ovie. Points may be similar, but he doesn't have any of the intangibles these guys have.
- adambuffalo

What intangibles do Ovie and Kane have?

Yes to all. Gringo is a winger for real in October 2015. They should start that now, and I would do it here in Buff so he can get a little bit of time in before it really counts.

Let's go!

At the risk of being booed out ...
I would like to see what Hodgson can do on line with 1st rate talent. He is one year removed from 20 goals....and played well in the Worlds on wi g last year...had high hopes forbid this year making the transition...I think GMTM owes it to the organization to see if he can be a reclamation project...if so, that resolves a couple of issues...if not, then BO coming.
I just can't see giving up on him when we gave Staff like 6 years

He would fit the shutdown spot for sure

Never thought about him.

I still want Martin or Boychuk but I would be fine with Methot

- homiedclown

Martin too old for me. Already 33. I want a 27, 28, 29 year old thats in their prime or just entered and has some good years left for the next 4-5 years. Boychuk already 31, although has a few years left.

Its why I'm still disappointed in giving up on Myers. He brought an offensive dynamic that Bogosian or Methot wouldnt bring to a top pairing. I dont think being physical is all that important on a top pairing. How physical was Lidstrom? One of the best in the game. Plus, I guess no one remembers physical Myers from our last playoff series against Philly. No reason he couldnt perform like that when we reached the playoffs again. Oh well.

I'm not a guy who's calling for Hodgsons head, either, but his timing is very bad. I thinks he's dealt.

Murray won't let assets leave for nothing in return

2011 was a long time ago

My biggest issue with Myers is why havn't we seen stretches of play like that from Myers since, to help get us in the playoffs the last 4 seasons

Please let me know what these "intangibles" are. I wont bother with the "controller disconnected" GIF, or links to all the stories about Kane's escapades. Find me one article about Perry clamping down in the defensive end.

Cup winners have different role players who all excel at their role. One of those roles is SNIPER - that's Ovi, that's Kane, that's Kessler. Let's leave the "intangibles" to guys like Girgensons, and Deslauriers, and just have Phil put the lights on the scoreboard.

- Der Kaiser

Bringing up Kane's escapades from years ago, but not mention his 2 cups and 2 Conn Smythe's. Scoring 91 points in 93 playoff games.
How about Corey Perry's Richard and Hart trophies.
And Ovie only has a Calder, Art Ross, Lester B.Pearson, 2 Hart's and 2 Richard's.

What intangibles do Ovie and Kane have?
- RogerRoeper

Patrick Kane? You have got to be kidding me... Respect one of the best Americans to ever play the game. The guy is clutch, wins at everything he does, scores game winners in the playoffs, has the sickest hands in the NHL, and is from the best city in the country.

Such a disconnect. Its all on a 21-24 year old to carry us into the playoffs? I think we both know the answer to that. And it had nothing to do with Myers not playing physical.

This.

And one must admidt...Myers playing better is a direct result of Nolan comi g in and letting him. E who he could breather than trying to make something out of him that wasn't his best attributes.
Interesting to see if that continues, I do think it will, especially not having to play 1st pairing anymore.

I'd like to see Sabres get a bonafide 1st pairing this summer when teams are strapped..let these players play where tey are supposed to, not always playing up one level. Spend the draft picks getting top 6 wingers!

Don't disagree with you ... Just want one more looksie before giving up on him.
Give him a chance with highly skilled players...before Sh!t-canning him...what's to lose...can always buyout/waiver him

These three can single handedly take control of games. Kessel will float around and score goals when someone gets the puck into the o-zone, because he's not going to get it. Kane's one of the best possession guys in the game and he and Ovie are both being lauded for their improvement in their defensive game. Goal scorers trophies or not, if Kessel is so good, where are his? Don't give me this 'but he plays for the leafs' excuse. Ovie didn't have a lot of talent around him when he beat out Crosby for the Calder. And Hart trophies aren't just handed out to the highest scorer.

it's a numbers thing for me

for 2015-16 we already have
Kane
McEichel (assumption)
Ennis
Girgens
Moulson
Gionta
Foligno
Reinhart

thats 8 of your top 9

Gringo or Coho for the last spot, if we hold serve
I'd rather give Gringo a chance then stick with CoHo who has looked completely disinterested for the last year

Maybe not, but I for one will enjoy watching the physical play for a change...clearing
The net...keeping dirty area goals from going in better. Bogosian and Zadorov with McCabe will be a nice blend to Risto, Pysyk ... I love that aspect of the trade.

Why? What is it about physical play thats so endearing that its a MUST HAVE? Keith nor Subban are overly physical. Top pairing D have great skating, good at puck retrieval and moving it up the ice. Solid defensively by using positioning and active sticks. Not by checking and being overly physical.

The game has far from shifted from the bruising 70's and 80's "clearing the net" play from defenseman.

(Myers had 4 times as many hits as Keith )

Of course not. Kessel is considered a terrible hockey player and is terribly underrated.
