I would honestly say a fair comparable for Kessel would be Vanek.
- adambuffalo

speed says otherwise

Kessel is closer to OVI then people think

I'm not a guy who's calling for Hodgsons head, either, but his timing is very bad. I thinks he's dealt.

Murray won't let assets leave for nothing in return

- Der Kaiser

He is just to slow for what we are trying to do and it appears he is to slow to do anything but PP. Can you imagine him with McEichel at centre, he'd be zones behind the play all the time.

Tobias Enstrom and Bogosian were their top pairing all season. They put Myers with Enstrom on top pairing, and finally moved Buff back to D (he was playing forward) in the middle pairing

http://scores.espn.go.com...boxscore?gameId=400564718

ES TOI
Myers - 16:11
Enstrom - 16:08
Buff - 15:34
Trouba - 13:19

- theblueandgold

the jets beat writer said myers will play with enstrom to take the pressure off of myers and leave buff and trouba together

like I said they really rotate the top 4 pretty evenly but he said their top pair is buff and trouba

after watching max go 1 on 4 for years and ennis doing the same thing recently, if you can't consistently put up points, and your slow then I want no part of you moving forward

Again, you conveniently assume being physical means one dimensional, ala John Scott....I think when you ponder it a bit more, you'll realize all teams strive for a nice mix. Bogo and Myers have SI,ilat stats..Myers a tad bit more O...but lesser on Defense? I like Bogo's toughness and physicality...the same I like in Kane... I believe the Sabres where tilted to the gentler side on D hence why I'm happy for the trade.
Btw, no need to attack with immature comments.

- IonSabres

Im not "conveniently assuming" anything. I dont value physical play as a must have or an important part of a top pairing defensemans game in todays modern NHL era. I gave you two (of many) examples of players that are considered top 10 defenseman in the game, and they are not described as physical players. In fact I even gave you the attributes that DO make them top defenseman in the game, and physical is no where on the list. Instead you went into some hyperbole about being physical and how players wont drive down your side because youre physical, and then brought a football comparison into it... complete nonsense.

I think its hilarious that people downplayed Myers defensive game because he was 6'8" and didnt play overly physical. On this poop team, he had the lowest GA/60 numbers of all defenseman while playing the most and toughest minutes.

I watched the Notre Dame/Providence game last night, well about 2 periods of it until this old man fell asleep.

I really liked what I saw from Peterson.
If there was one thing I saw that I did not like, it was his rebound control, but mostly I was impressed with his play.

Did not see nor hear too much from Hurley.
From what I recall, he was not even on the first 2 PP units for the Irish.
Not sure why.

From Providence Anthony Florentino looked okay, took 2 penalties that I know of, wasn't too impressed with his play.

Just wondering if anyone else had watched it last night.
I believe there is a rematch tonight on NBCSN again this evening for anyone interested in watching a few of our prospects.

- BuffaloHardHat

so................Florentino made Myers expendable

sorry I couldn't resist

I'd say he's much closer to Vanek than Ovie. Vanek is pretty quick, just the way he skates makes him look slower than he actually is.

Put Kessel on Chicago and he's winning cups.
- RogerRoeper

I like Kessel for the fact that he only needs one shot to score, his defensive game is lacking but successful teams always have a guy like that. As long as they can potentially score on every quality shot, I'm all for it. The problem becomes contract management, I am not sure I want him for that long at the money he's making.

You don't think that's fair?
- adambuffalo

Not for at least 3 years, no.

Unless you think 60 is a fair comparable to 70.

I had no problems with Myers defensive game the last 16 months

Would I like him to clear the front of the net more, yeah
Would I like him to have been better disciplined, yeah

He was by far our best defensive guy back there the last 16 months

My biggest issue was his outlet pass and playing in a fog in the other teams end

Yet against the top team in the Western conference, they played him and Enstrom the most minutes at even strength. Hmm. That was speculation because of the narrative that Myers isnt a top pairing D. He is.

he is coming into his prime right now

8 mil is not a bad contract for a player of his stature

Both are defensive liabilities. Both look disinterested often. Both don't seem to play unless they have the puck on their stick. Vanek .82 ppg. Kessel .78 ppg.

Just watch, in a year there are going to be a bunch of stories about Myers "improved play" because his corsi/points will be better. When he was playing well all along

I think the "playing in the fog" had a lot to do with the forwards on the team. There were many, many circumstance where I could see exactly what Myers was trying to do but the guys up front were clueless. Not saying he didn't make some head scratcher moves but a lot of the time he wasn't being read all that well by his team mates.

And this is a time when our GM will show his worth with the Cap most likely staying put or going down (Canadian dollar isn't done falling IMO).

Are you really arguing that Vanek is as good as Kessel?
