Trading Beau and Sutter for Vermette would be an awful trade.

And I agree with the idea that trading for Jagr would be poor asset management. Fact of the matter is trading high draft picks/prospects for longer term solutions like David Perron is good asset management. Trading high draft picks/prospects for guys like Marcel Goc, Doug Murray... etc. that is awful asset management.

We have a second left in this year's draft in the top 90. it shouldnt be traded for any reason beyond a long term fit here.

Would you rather....

A. Unload that 2nd round pick for something to load up the Pens roster for a deep playoff run while Crosby/Malkin are 28/29?

or

B. Keep the 2nd round pick, develop a player in the average of 4-5 years so that Crosby/Malkin have young players while their 32/33?

I'm more inclined to bolster the roster... I know by 32/33 they'll still be great players in the league, but right now they are in the prime/peak of their careers and the best chance for the Pens to win the cup is in the next 2 or 3 years...

and that is the reason we are in the situation we are in. It's always fork over the picks for the rental and then wonder why our farm system is devoid of talent. You will be asking yourself this next year if a deal is made, no second rounder is used and wonder why our farm system sucks. My response ... where have you been. We have been doing this for the last eight or nine years.

Well then it's a good thing he got paid well these last 2 years in he's gonna be relegated to a camp invite next year.

Also, no matter how much money you make, $3 million is never "a drop in the pond."

We're just not gonna agree here. People always want to make more money. For him, if the Penguins offered him $3M and another team offered him $3.5M, then maybe he goes to the Pens (or another contender). But for a multi-million dollar difference, I can't believe you're saying he should have turned it down.

- jmatchett383

You're still getting paid extremely well to play a sport. He won't even get to spend that extra 2 million he would make.... If it's a guy like Comeau, of course I go for the money.

on this board, there is a greater chance it wasn't because many people don't know values of players. I will consider it as a joke. However others would be serious.

Absolutely not. If it were big enough to fit 1 RJ Umberger or 1 Vinny Lecalier-sized body into, then maybe.

I try to avoid it. Even the ones a person considers to actually be of fair value generally gets ripped on so I typically keep those sorts of thoughts to myself.

And I'd enjoy getting paid amazingly well to play a sport as opposed to extremely well.

We could make a Sill-Malone-Adams panzer division.

Thought 1: Our players are all the best players in the NHL.
Thought 2: All of our players suck and can be traded.
Thought 3: Our players are severely undervalued in all fair trade proposals

He's been paid amazingly well for like 20 years.. I'm sure one year of extremely well won't hurt his wallet.

Oh no, I've been here the whole time, and I don't ask why our farm system sucks, I'm well aware of it, but I also don't think our farm system sucks. We had a GM who had an infatuation with puck moving defensemen... and they are all playing decent hockey with the big club right now. I would say that our farm system sucks because our scouts are terrible and have made some really bad choices finding talent in the middle rounds of the draft, 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds.

i refuse to believe that there is a deal out there for a rental player that would justify spending a 2nd round pick that would also put this team over the top.

if you have an idea to prove me wrong, i'm all ears.
