I'd really only be for it if it involved moving Sutter in the process.
- jfkst1

That I would do... but then we'd almost have to obtain a 3rd line center, without one of our most usable trading pieces (Sutter) now. We are low on picks for this year, and Jagr wants top 6 minutes.

Also, I see no way NJ would even humor that.

Difference is though that I'm not set for life, I understand what you were trying to say though. If I had that much I would play on a cheap deal for another ring.
- znagle

I wouldn't. If I had 2 rings, I was a top-10 goal and point producer in NHL history, was a God in my home land, and had an Olympic gold medal. I'll take the last few big chunks of money I can.

Of course you do ... Wilson is one of the bigger excuse makers for Kane acting like a turd. He can't put two and two together as far as Kane doing this to get out. He is already a one-time loser in the lockerroom. His teammates grew to hate him as evidence of the most recent incident. Does this change in Buffalo? The city mirrors that of Winnipeg in ever fashion. Add in the fact next year they won't be winning (granted talent is on the way), lets just see what Evander Turd acts like. He essentially has three years to rehab himself before UFA. If the status quo continues, he will go to UFA as a two-time loser and no one will pay for his services. I can't stand players that go to the extent he did to get traded out of the situation. Be professional, not an immature malcontent.

Just curious, but do you hate nickels because they are not dimes?

Bc he isn't getting ice time and is behind a lot of guys... and its not like pens are getting ryan o'reilly or eberle and he can be an add in. Unless he's package in a deal for tlusty...

What is ur value for winnik then?

- nh4442

Third round pick ... he isn't worth any more and we don't have one.

Trading a kid that could easily be in the lineup next year should Martin and Ehrhoff bolt for a third line run of the mill rental is dumb. No, we aren't getting ROR (don't want because 6 million dollar third line centers aren't worth it and his negotiating tactics ... if I don't get what I want I will leave for the KHL ... not worth it) or Eberle (we don't have the pieces because we use all of our assets on non factor rentals). Tlusty ... another rental. Just what this organization needs. Send a package of assets for another rental. This is why this organization is short of talent and depth in the farm system ... because stupid moves like this.

I agree about the top 6 being set.

I wouldn't move Bennett for Kassian. He just doesn't do much for me. I still think Bennett is salvageable, but maybe not this season. But if I move him, I want a young, controlled asset back.

Sutter... I'd trade him for just about anything now. It might take two deals to replace him, not sure that there is a big market for 3rd line center for 3rd line center, so you might have to dump him for a pick or whatever, and flip that for another center somewhere.

- rival22

Bennett + for B Connolly
Sutter + Dumo/Harrington for Petry and Pakrinen
Ehrhoff+Kapanen+Spaling+2016 3rd for JVR

wow cup

ok just kidding about the cup and probably the last trade but thats my flavor of the week

Why does a dollar coin have a larger diameter than a half dollar, a half dollar have a larger diameter than a quarter, a quarter have a larger diameter than a nickel, and a nickel have a larger diameter than a penny, yet a dime has a smaller diameter than them all?

How about Sutter and Bennet to the Coyotes for Antoine Vermette and Tobias Reider? There's a reset for you Don.

No, I hate punks like Evander Kane that do poop like they do to get out of their situation. He brought alot of crap on himself. He is being paid alot of money to play hockey. He was too worried about trying to get out of Winnipeg; he forgot the most important thing. I hope kids like this fail in life to be honest.

I really do not get the hype on needing to overpay for Jagr. Have we not suffered enough from Shero's rental players? If the price is cheap, sure, but Jagr is not going to be cheap. Our top 6 is as good as its ever been, just focus on 1 more depth player and pray for no more god damn injuries.
- Guile

See... the way I see it is that GMJR is kind of in favor of a rental/1 year contract for this year because with a new coach and new system, it's still a transition season... Yeah Perron locked up for another year is solid, but if you look at the deals he signed in the off-season--Comeau, Ehrhoff, Downie, Greiss, Lapierre-- all on 1 year deals. I don't think getting a rental for this season is a bad idea at all because it will give him an idea of the types of player he should be going for after the seasons end, and with all of those guys on expiring deals, and the core set... it gives him flexibility come free agency.

I like the idea of acquiring another top 6 for rental IF it's feasible, because it helps push the depth DOWN the lineup, current 2nd liner to 3rd line.. current 3rd liner to 4th line.. adams to press box... whether you want to acquire depth bottom 6, or another possible top 6, its going to do the same thing, increase depth regardless.

He's set for life, his kids are set for life and more than likely his grandchildren will be as well. He plays still because he loves the game (and money) but if you love the game, wouldn't you rather have fun and win a cup before going out while still making decent money? 3 million more after his career earnings is a drop in the pond, as is 1 million more. He even said that he would be willing to do a camp tryout for a team next year.

Trading Beau and Sutter for Vermette would be an awful trade.

And I agree with the idea that trading for Jagr would be poor asset management. Fact of the matter is trading high draft picks/prospects for longer term solutions like David Perron is good asset management. Trading high draft picks/prospects for guys like Marcel Goc, Doug Murray... etc. that is awful asset management.

We have a second left in this year's draft in the top 90. it shouldnt be traded for any reason beyond a long term fit here.

If Bennett is involved, then the return needs to be something more retainable than a rental. Hanzal would be a more ideal fit for a 3C on the Pens and would be more likely to be retained.

This is a perfect post with which I 100% agree with. Have said this for the last three years and people can't seem to figure out why this organization is in the state its in. No true forward solutions outside of Kapanen, who we just drafted in the last draft and maybe Sundgvuist. Our D prospect pool is shrinking because two of them could very well be in the lineup next year (Pouliot and Harrington).

The Doug Murray deal looks worse and worse each time you see it. I would much rather have Ryan Hartman in our organization instead of trading for Iggy. Why? Because Pittsburgh would yield tons more. That deal was more keeping him from Boston than anything.

Well.... Greiss, Lapierre, and Ehrhoff/Martin (have to combine) those 3 I don't think we will care about losing for the most part. In regards to Ehrhoff/Martin, we are just hoping for 1 of those two to stay.
Downie and Comeau, I believe the bulk here want both to stay, so we are lucky neither is a huge cost as of now or their recent past.

Its just the cost for Jagr, and his value is more inflated for Pitt because of his past here.

And yes, the trickle down effect of a top 6 rental "should" bolster the bottom 6. However, who is getting bumped? Comeau is the only one who would be bumped down... Then you have either Downie and Lapierre on the same line (really not ideal), or Bennett on the 4th. And Bennett is already having enough things going wrong for him this season.

I personally see a top 6 rental causing more problems synergy wise than good.

A bottom 6 improvement/swap can keep most of the synergy intact or improve. Sutter for Winnick, or moves near that nature.

So we trade 2 young forwards for a 32 yr old... um no that would be stupid... pen avg age on team is like 29...

Tlusty is a different kind of rental. JR drafted him and sign him... plus he is a young rental.. pens have a better chance of resigning him....

Well then it's a good thing he got paid well these last 2 years in he's gonna be relegated to a camp invite next year.

Also, no matter how much money you make, $3 million is never "a drop in the pond."

We're just not gonna agree here. People always want to make more money. For him, if the Penguins offered him $3M and another team offered him $3.5M, then maybe he goes to the Pens (or another contender). But for a multi-million dollar difference, I can't believe you're saying he should have turned it down.

If you move out sutter then you can resign Vermette as 3c, Vermette is a gigantic upgrade, he currently leads the Coyotes in TOI, he plays in all situations and he plays hard, never takes a shift off. Reider and Bennet are a wash as of right now, Reider is actually contributing even though his team is not winning and Reider can play in the bottom and top 6 with little difficulty.

and if you don't resign him, you lose one of your top D prospects, who could challenge for a spot in the lineup plus another asset. This is a pass.
